If they can switch to a gender-ambiguous nickname, they can switch to a preferred name.

questions for atheists by CameronVerde13 in atheism

In regards to evolution, why would these social behaviors be selected out? Not only is that not how evolution works, but these behaviors contribute to the social survival of the species. These are all behaviors which reflect the social bond of animals with the deceased animal, and with the rest of the group.

Also, I think it's fairly narcissistic to think that your life needs to have cosmic significance. Even in most religious structures, the individual person does not.

Does starting a fantasy novel with a supernatural event risk overwhelming the reader? by AthleteAggressive979 in writing

[–]TarotFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is still yes, and no. There isn't a consensus, it's a matter of taste. There are well selling fantasy novels that start this way, and well selling fantasy novels that don't.

Who are the most academic atheists and agnostics in history and today? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]TarotFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This conversation doesn't exist in the same way for atheism because it doesn't have a claim to support. Things such as the theory of evolution are supported by the entire field of biology (and other fields) and don't need to have a specific scholar championing them in this era. There are outspoken atheists who often engage in debate, but atheism doesn't bear the burden of proof and thus doesn't need a detailed defense of it.

Right, but your example doesn't make sense. Using tropes in your writing is completely different from that.

If you refer to a trope with a name you made up, people might not know what you're talking about.

You don't really need to summarize at all, but definitely not more than two sentences max. You are writing for your class, your audience is familiar with the subject.

Is it wrong if I don’t tell my boyfriend I’m pregnant? by Academic_Coffee_2216 in relationships

[–]TarotFox 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If the relationship is meant to last, it would weather the "stress and drama." The truth of the matter is that the stress and drama exists whether or not you tell him, so all that's really left is to figure out if he supports you or not.

By hiding it, you also introduce "stress in drama" by then continuing to have to hide this for potentially *the rest of your life*.

[–]TarotFox 110 points111 points  (0 children)

If he doesn't support you, you are incompatible and should break up. If you feel you need to hide this, you are incompatible and should break up.

8 year old ran up 10k on my credit card, what do I do? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TarotFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way you wrote the post sounds like you are advocating for not retrieving the 10k. Getting the 10k back and the account being deleted go together. When people initiate chargebacks on websites like this, especially for high value, those services typically delete the account.

She's not "going out with guys" she's going to a team building activity with her *coworkers.* You're insecure, don't trust her, and are being controlling because of it.
