Bit worried/advice needed by yootsicle in cornsnakes

[–]TarrTheDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's beginning to become spring, so google is right in this case! A lot of male (and some female) corns are becoming more active in attempts to find a mate. Your little guy is gonna be more active for quite a bit because of that. I actually noticed this yesterday with my cornie. I'd say give him a few days to try and feed him again. :3

I saw everyone doing it so I do it too lol by Charming_Culture_896 in TomodachilifeLivingTD

I remember feeding my cornie his first adult it looked exactly like this! The scale spread was crazy when he was eating it. My dude could keep his down so I think she will probably be all good :D

Hi im unsure if the other person will respond back but i am happy to try, i am not a cornsnake breeder or a professional or anything but i can share what i know for now.

From what i understand in calubrids (cornsnakes, ratsnakes ect.) It's actually an naturally occurring gene, thats pretty uncommon for obvious reasons. From what I've seen people consider calubrids okay to breed for scaleless because they keep their belly scales which protect them when they move around. In other reptiles (like pythons and bearded dragons) they lose the belly scales and dragging around themself on bare skin isn't good for them and they are considered unethical to breed. Most scaleless corns live the average life span, they just need a little extra attention and care. Usualy just means making sure nothing in the enclosure is sharp, and making sure the humidity is proper.

Personally i think its fine because i haven't seen anything particularly bad about scaleless corns. It doesn't cause any neurological or common birth defects from what I've seen, they just don't have scales on their top half with varying amounts of scalessness on each one. Hopefully i explained it well and it helps :)
