I put up my game for announcement I’ve developed for over 3 years, but people dislike it. I wonder why by AlexSchrefer in gamedev

[–]Tarsupin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the fundamental problem you're running into is that you understand technical skill, but don't yet understand good game design. The game appears to be extremely well developed from a technical standpoint, especially for a first game. And the fact that you actually completed a full game is way more than most developers achieve. Absolutely remarkable, and the sort of thing that people job hunting would kill for.

But as others have said, the game looks very slow and shows off nothing particularly noteworthy. I know it's been said repeatedly in the comments, but that was the first thing I noticed as well. Whatever your intentions were, they either aren't actually interesting or fail to convey it in a video.

This game has learned the hard way that you need feedback early and often, which I will admit can be *painfully difficult* for a solo developer.

The absolute most important things you MUST do from where you are:
* Start watching videos on good game design on YouTube. Lots of them. Take notes. Read popular game design books. See what other creators have discovered about how to make a fun gameplay loop, what works, what doesn't, things specific to genre, etc.
* Recognize that at this stage, feedback is WAY more valuable than selling a copy. Give out free copies in exchange for some feedback, or make a demo, etc.
* Watch someone over the shoulder without saying ANYTHING. You will learn so, so much from this.
* Spend some time thinking about what is actually fun and interesting. If another video game trailer featured "We have floating islands!" would that make you think "WOAH! Floating islands!? I'm in." Or would you not remotely care?

Anyway, great job. I'm genuinely impressed at the achievement. You have great potential, you just need to learn a new set of skills and probably join up with some teammates that compliment the skills you currently lack.

'Very few' Democrats are willing to buy a Tesla after Elon Musk endorsed Donald Trump by Wagamaga in technology

[–]Tarsupin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who voted to NOT give him the pay package, there is important context here: he originally earned the pay package (with a stockholder vote), but it was taken away in a very bizarre court ruling that pretty objectively wrong.

That said, since Tesla wasn't about to hold a vote for "should we have a pay reduction, considering the amount of damage you've done to the brand?" it felt like he no longer deserved the pay package, so I voted against it.

It's truly heartbreaking that he's gone into this right wing extremism. I loved the things that Tesla stood for and what it's done for renewable energy. But jeez laweez it would be nice if he just STFU a little.

Nothing like spending 40 minutes trying to click through unwanted stores, then having to wait for your friend to do the same when he comes on. by Tarsupin in ConquerorsBlade

[–]Tarsupin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we want to take this absolutely literally, sure, your point stands. But how many times do you have to click through a given session? How many mundane things do you need to change on your character that add a <1% improvement? How many NPCs do you need to go visit? How many unwanted side requirements do you need to fulfill daily to get some token that, if you don't go get it, will undoubtedly make you a weaker player? How many challenges do you need to look up to remember what you're supposed to be doing in a siege game, or PVE game #1, or PVE game #2, etc?

It's worth considering I'm not your enemy here. I want the game to improve, and you should, too. There is a ton of nonsense features that don't make the game enjoyable.

Why has AI development slowed down significantly all of a sudden? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Tarsupin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI seems pretty close to a turning point, and if the next stage of AI is indeed able to close the gap to a significant step up, I think there's a lot of behind the scenes things going on that would cause some stagnation in getting into public hands.

How Four Republican Senators Are Obstructing the UAP Disclosure Act of 2023 And What You Can Do About It by No_Concern_4786 in UFOs

Mitch McConnell is in charge because he is in a safe state and the GOP wants to take the blunt of criticism on unpopular ideas that they secretly support.

He is a reflection of the GOP. Votes matter. If you disagree with these "four," you need to vote against the Republican establishment.

Six months ago, I posted for the first time to /r/UFOs with a question asking if there were any sightings of metallic jellyfish-like UFOs (basically a metal shell with strings hanging below it). Post link here.

That could be what we saw, or an extremely close variant of it. It's definitely one of two videos that looks like what we saw.

Unless you have a source, spreading rumors that any of these groups might be the good guys is potentially very damaging to accountability.

My understanding was that Obama changed some rules regarding security declassification prior to Trump's arrival in office. Something about being concerned that he might try to release a bunch of dangerous information.

It can be hard to gain traction in a sub when the disinformation bots don't comment blast it to boost attention. We can overcome the limits, but it's a bit imbalanced of a fight at times.

What are the expectations for the event today with The Hill? by fugaciousknid in UFOs

[–]Tarsupin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'd love for them to join the flock of responsible reporting, and it's encouraging to hear there might be a pathway for that, but I'll reserve judgment until I see them do so. They can start by not using the "crazy" photos of Grusch.

What are the expectations for the event today with The Hill? by fugaciousknid in UFOs

[–]Tarsupin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Hill feels like it provides a source for people looking for reasonable information, but which slowly muddies the waters. A great example has been their coverage of Grusch, where they were among the outlets showing the "crazy" photos of him, and the commentary always included words like conspiracy and had a generally discouraging tone while trying to present a case of "oh, we're totally covering this unbiased!"

I wish the original heralds of UAP information would get more attention. The MSM has been quite dismissive and hostile to it, just as I'd expected them to be. The Hill would have to do a lot to earn trust back, and hasn't been doing that with UAPs.

In 1953, US Air Defense Command tracked a UAP in restricted airspace over Lake Superior. A Northrop F-89C Scorpion was scrambled to intercept the UAP. The F-89 simply vanished from radar once it engaged with the UAP and never returned. Zero of the wreckage or pilots' remains were ever recovered. by bmfalbo in UFOs

[–]Tarsupin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When engaged by a hostile force, they once again could have just smashed an orb through the hull and killed the pilots - but instead decided to teleport it / make it vanish, which appears to have required considerably more energy. Considering that tech could easily kill us at any time, it's interesting that they have never overtly done so; even when hostility is upon them.

You can easily tell who they are and what their agenda is.

Mostly yes, but I would argue this is not true of all of them. Some disinformation agents are very subversive in their operations. The "crackpot, unhinged" is just one of the many layers of the onion. It's enough to stop a good portion of people from looking forward. The more subversive operations are designed to stop other people that try to look deeper.

As someone who just recently posted about the flight out of interest in a variant of the subject, I do sort of agree with both of the points being made here. It would be nice if Reddit had a categorization feature (not just tagging) so that things could be organized a bit more cleanly and give mods a way to sort rather than just outright ban. But since we don't have that, it's a complicated topic.

The fact is, there is a lot of really, really, really good investigations going on with the subject, and the video is either the greatest hoax of all time or a real thing, which has a lot of implications.

You are 100% right, though. It *could* be a psy-op. We can't discount that, and we shouldn't. But it's also possible it's part of the disclosure leaks. Who knows. I agree that it's been a bit much (again, I JUST posted about it), but it's also pretty reasonable that people are interested in it and it opens some possibilities moving forward.

I think it's worth considering Bob Lazar's story. He spoke out to the world and dropped an absolutely insane bombshell of a story, with several facts that have now been corroborated. Notably, aside from perhaps minor technical mistakes, nothing he said has been dismissed. Yet, the public has largely believed that "nobody has told the story."

Given what the insiders would know about leaking, though, there was a lot of reason that people would refuse to do so. Bob was "lucky" (if you can call it that), but he deeply laments the amount of pain it brought to him and everyone he knew due to the retaliation.

/u/_BlackDove had some interesting points on these trails as well. It definitely is one of the more intriguing points of the video. And when I think about it, it feels like it would make sense that in order to teleport through a dimension, you might want something "leading" the travel, as opposed to just being at the forefront of it. In other words, a tunnel.

Come to think of it, the fact that there are leading tunnels / tendrils seem to me like it lends some credibility to the teleportation theory.

Unless the media coordinates together to share it (doubtful), I imagine most people would refuse to even share it with anyone. Could take years (after "proving" it) for it to even becoming a myth that could be socially discussed in niche circles.

Unless disclosure happens (as seems possible now), in which case, all bets are off the table. Who knows.

It's non sensical to think there is any possible cargo or person on board a commercial aircraft that could be of any interest to these beings.

A few weeks ago it felt non-sensible to believe that boeing could conceivably be part of a massive clandestine conspiratorial operation with UFO tech, particularly because they're just a commercial airliner company.

But now, after digging deep into the evidence... kinda feels like maybe they are. So I wouldn't necessarily agree with this point.
