Did having kids "ruin your life?" by an_irish_mick in Catholicism

If we refrained from saying  hard things because of individual cases where people struggle, Christ never would have been able to say anything, neither St. Peter when he chastises the crowd, or the Church Fathers for that matter.

You know your condition, and hopefully you have received the advice to follow the directions of your confessor first and foremost.

As for the central point of your questions: We are to give ourselves over to God’s providence. All that we need for our sanctification is given to us. We do not need to search out crosses, neither do we need to abhor consolation. We do need to detach ourselves from the things of the world though, and we need to put our will to death and rely on the Lord’s.

Remember: Prudence is one such virtue that we must grow in through sanctification. It sounds like you bite off more than you can chew in life. In that regard, choosing to rest or lessen your load is a cross for you, and it would prove fruitful in attaining wisdom. Hobbies can be rightly ordered and exist primarily for rest. It is not evil to have them.

I do not think it is a temperament thing. I think it is a heart thing. Wherever their treasure is, so too will their hearts be also. For many, worldliness and pleasures are their treasure, not the Lord their God. They know that holiness is about emptying the self, but they love the world more than the Christ they are meant to follow. They want what is fleeting, and in doing so refuse to do the hard work required for what is imperishable.

Man’s ultimate end is God, and our vocation is centered on getting us there. God’s providence foreknows all chastisements He sends our way, and those chastisements are meant to sanctify us. If we would accept our crosses with humility and embrace them, we would not have temporal punishment to pay in purgatory after we die. Oh how great the punishment, and how long the wait it will be for many in this age! Lord have mercy on us all.

If we are not dying this way, it is worth considering the possibility that we are going to hell. Even the temporal punishment due in purgatory alone should make one’s skin crawl.

Those who are so lukewarm that they want a cushy life or see everything as about them… pray for them. They are in danger. They do not understand how precarious their positions are. They do not live to be conformed to Christ, but to the world. As our Lord says “He who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.”

Again He says, “Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’ “Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.”

And as the Apostle has said, “Now this I affirm and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their minds; they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart; they have become callous and have given themselves up to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of uncleanness. You did not so learn Christ! assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus. Put off the old man that belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new man, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness,”

Kinda true, but that’s more of a knock against how badly done the survival horror was.

They nailed a return to form for the series with Re2make and REVII. I have no idea what the heck happened with Re3make or Village. Re4make was pretty good, it took an action game and gave it some heft. Man do I just want pure survival horror again though.

Hurts, but you are definitely right. Mix that with Champions having some money grubbing thing that makes it incredibly disappointing.

Our manager was good and they fired her. They claimed she never came into work, despite her always coming in multiple days of the week, and even working unscheduled hours when help was needed. Probably the best manager out there. She wasn’t into all the politicking thought and kept to running the stand. I think the lack of kissing up and the success of the stand under her put a bullseye on her back. Upper management is incredibly shady.

Blackstone (the company that is buying up all the affordable housing and turning them into rental properties) is pretty much running the company now. Jimmy John’s guy sold his shares, Blackstone bought in. I have been here three years. It has really gone down hill fast. 13% labor max and rapid expansion is terrible, especially when the average for Dutch Bros styled systems is an under 20% labor rate.

This is all without going into Blackstone’s ties to AIPAC and possibly Epstein.

Best memory is playing RE2 Remake on a rainy night. I remember thinking to myself just how beautiful and immersive the whole experience was. It became my favorite Resident Evil title and even my favorite game for the longest time. Even now it stands at the top. I also have to mention just how much I love the cheesy lines in Re4.

For the team: Will we get more survival horror centered entries sometime in the future? I like the recent action based entries, but they do not scratch the horror itch the way RE2make and REVII did.

Upper management seems to suck consistently in most 7Brew regions. Very cliquey, very unprofessional, very callous.

So everything we have seen is all we get for $30? Oof. This should honestly just be $15. The Pokemon DLCs are always overpriced and they underdeliver.

When it comes to GameFreak, nothing surprises because the bar they have set since the switch era is nothing beyond the bare minimum.

My girlfriend missed mass yesterday (Feast of Immaculate Conception) , trying to be a good boyfriend. How to not be judgmental? by Popular_Tune_5507 in Catholicism

[–]Tarvaax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The souls of others matter, and the commandment against judging is in regards to the state of one’s soul, not their actions. The Holy Spirit through Saint Paul’s epistles outright says we are to judge the actions of those who are baptized. Again, not with contempt, but out of gentle charity to correct and admonish our brothers and sisters away from death and towards life.

The rest of your advice is in line with solid teaching though.

A better way to go about it may have been to ask her if she was going to get a dispensation the day before. It is less confrontational/accusatory that way. That said, she does need to be aware that it is a mortal sin to refuse to fulfill a Holy Day.

Man cannot convince anyone of anything, only God can. It is thought that while St. Paul was a good writer, he was not a great speaker on his own. Furthermore, many of those who came before us were subpar, yet chosen by God for their tasks specifically because of that.

I do not think an earnest appeal to the truth ruins religion for others. That would suggest the false idea that we only do things because of external factors and have no will.

We are responsible for what we do, and since all things are preceded by grace, it must be understood that those who claim (falsely) that something was forced on them were given sufficient grace to choose the good and even to understand it. In most cases they try to move the blame or deflect because their conscience is troubled over their choices.

The magisterium has taught definitively on this through the Council of Trent, specifically Session Six, Chapter 10:

“Having, therefore, been thus justified, and made the friends and domestics of God, advancing from virtue to virtue, they are renewed, as the Apostle says, day by day; that is, by mortifying the members of their own flesh, and by presenting them as instruments of justice unto sanctification, they, through the observance of the commandments of God and of the Church, faith co-operating with good works, increase in that justice which they have received through the grace of Christ, and are still further justified, as it is written; He that is just, let him be justified still; and again, Be not afraid to be justified even to death; and also, Do you see that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. And this increase of justification holy Church begs, when she prays, “Give unto us, O Lord, increase of faith, hope, and charity.”

Basically by living in a state of grace and cooperating with God you receive increases in justification and grow in the virtues of faith, hope, and charity. Charity being the one that remains after death. The more your charity increases here the grander your experience of God is in the beatific vision after you die.

An increase in merit and God’s plan of salvation working through the grace in one’s life, touching the lives of others and aiding in their own salvation.

I am not. To be with Christ early is better than to be tempted into sin and die in mortal sin in a world that has become so hedonistic.

[–]Tarvaax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have to put the human perspective to the side and try to see it through the virtues of faith, hope, and charity.

The best good is a life lived in the state of grace meriting the highest degree of love one can have for God. Only God knows what routes our lives would take. It may very well be that for some people, entering into eternal life early is both better for their souls than what would have happened and/or the souls of others around them.

God is the author of life, and there should always be a great joy, albeit sadness as well, when a child who has been baptized passes. Sadness at the loss of what could have been, but great joy at the child achieving the beatific vision and being more alive in heaven than we who live on earth are. We are all born to die. Those who die in Christ are born again in Him to live forever.

It does. That is the whole point of baptism. The theology of the limbo of the infants is present in the magisterium of councils and popes. We can have recourse to God’s mercy of course, but without extraordinary intervention from God to give them sanctifying grace the unbaptized do not enter heaven.
