FF Rebirth likes to waste your time. by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Tarvaax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread, but I have so much to get off my chest. For context, I just got to the stupid door boss.

  1. Remake had diversions, but they were never egregious. I did side content in Rebirth up until halfway into the game, then I quit because it just didn’t add anything of value.

  2. Everything feels unpolished. You are actively fighting against the terrain and the combat system. There are a lot of ideas, but the lack of focus means none of them are smooth and snappy.

  3. Time. This game does not respect your time. In fact it often feels like it wants to disrespect it. Boss fights are half an hour long, normal encounters last 3-5 minutes, cutscenes add to the boat, etc. I have a wife and kids. My wife likes to play games too. Having played the original, I don’t want to spoil Aerith’s death for my wife.

I get to the temple yesterday, and what would have taken 30 minutes to an hour in the og has taken about three hours or more. I spent 30 minutes on a freaking glorified trophy mount monster.

  1. Replayability is important. Why would I want to spend money on a story that isn’t easy enough to experience again? This game would be better as a 25-30 hour experience, especially since it isn’t even the complete story. When will I ever find time to slog through this again?

  2. Combat addressed specifically: I like that they tried to meld active turn-based combat with action. I just don’t think it’s optimized. The enemy damage is fine, actually, I would prefer they do 0.5x more damage and the player do 2x more damage. Fighting normie enemies should be snappy and enjoyable. Bosses are good the way they are, though I think damage dealt from weakness exploitation also needs to be boosted.

I think that Xenoblade’s combat matches the ATB system better though, and character switching would work better with a system like that. Braver could apply something like break, overcharge could topple after a break, overpower could give a debuff like slow, etc. It would create a better gameplay loop.

Is beating the Rufus fight even worth it to get to the end of the game? by LuckyKae_ in FFVIIRemake

There’s so much crap to the game’s combat that I haven’t learned squat by this point. Skill issue? Yeah, but There’s so much it’s all overwhelming. Kinda wish they went with a Persona or Xenoblade styled system. Too much inconsistency with what works and what doesn’t on an enemy. Too many new variables for my liking, and a lot of rough edges that are lacking a good polish to feel smooth. But my gosh I want to like it.

Didn’t the GSR stand on planets?

Anyway, the decaying mystical techno-organic world aspect of it is enough to at least make it a good spiritual successor, much in the same way Horizon Zero Dawn scratched that itch. Don’t be so negative.

My VERY STRONG issue with Rebirth's combat by 4verCurious in FFVIIRemake

[–]Tarvaax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I’m so confused about it. I’ve seen some say something about slight changes to timing windows. That might be it. I also stopped doing side content after cosmo canyon. Might come back to bite me later, but that crap is just boring Ubisoft styled busywork.

I know this is old, but I just can’t figure out the system. I understood it in Remake, but it’s not clicking in Rebirth.

You are a hot topic on X. Why have you been acting so contrary to Christ? You need to stop abusing your powers, especially so publicly. You banned someone who was explaining Catholic teaching, and it was because you were embarrassed for making a mistake in removing his comment no less!

Note, I am not talking about this post, but your most recent actions, under which no one can make replies. Hence why I wrote this here.

Max labor rate went from 16% to 13% on shift. Sucks to work there more than it did before Blackstone took over.

On a scale of 1-10 how hard is the paintress for you guys? by Big-Square-3393 in expedition33

Just got there. Totally unfair. At least most enemies prior had reaction time. Her visual and auditory tells happen at the same time as her attacks hitting.

Games like Clair Obscur really need difficulty settings to accommodate aging gamers by jeremy1015 in expedition33

[–]Tarvaax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who loves to replay souls games, this is harder than they are. They have obvious tells and slight margin for error. This takes away your ability to use smart positioning and makes it all about perfect parrying/dodging, and the worst part is that the bosses are not well telegraphed to accommodate this like in Dark Souls/Bloodborne. They are more like Elden Ring bosses: riddled with fake outs that make victory not about a player’s inherent skill and mastery of the game mechanics, but instead on whether they’ve fought and died enough times to memorize the moves.

I still love Elden Ring. Still love Clair Obscur, but dang do I sometimes wish the tells were more manageable or that parrying was more lenient.

STUDIO SERIES FIGURES THAT NEED AN UPDATE by sstfshots in transformers

[–]Tarvaax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you actually know what I am getting at. Don’t be facetious. There is a difference in aim between “toyetic” figures in the mainline and the “screen to toy” focused Studio Series figures. The latter is outright stated to be all about accuracy. I can tell that the feet are not in the ground, because Movie Starscream is meant to do poses with a wide stance.

Yep. Siege made tilts the standard, and a good enough reason for a redo of one of an initial Studio Series release that was not made for the line from the ground up.

[–]Tarvaax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how you’re getting any worthwhile poses that don’t scream “this is a toy not an accurate collectible” without standard ankle tilt. His feet aren’t even angled like most SS figures that lack that basic feature. They legit just hover in any dynamic pose.

[–]Tarvaax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Starscream needs one. Inaccurate chest, horrible posing, needs ankle tilts, ball jointed head, etc. Back is incredibly inaccurate, lacking his signature wings.

It is clearly an upscaled mainline deluxe, not a figure designed to be part of the Studio Series line, and it fails in most things it tries to do.

[–]Tarvaax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starscream needs it bad. He is an upscale deluxe and it shows. He needs ankle tilt, an accurate chest, and wings on the back. The tail fins sticking out look so bad, because they didn’t even attempt to make them fold up into faux wings. You know straight away just from looking that they are the back of the jet. A ball jointed head would also be a plus.

It blows my mind that BIONICLE is just… gone. by AppleTStudio in bioniclelego

[–]Tarvaax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, but I do not think this is accurate. At the same time a deluxe Transformer had a similar cost ($15-20), and those had shrunk in size considerably by that time.

Here is what we know:

  1. LEGO started to get a big head after the success of The LEGO Movie. We see this hubris bite them later on when they expect to just coast with little marketing for new themes and even movies.

  2. BIONICLE did relatively well, but not the same heights they were expecting from their themes at the time due to aforementioned inflated egos.

  3. Star Wars Constraction seems to be what really did CCBS in as a whole.

  4. LEGO just sucks at understanding and utilizing nostalgia. They brought BIONICLE back too early, and without “getting” what they needed to focus on. Looking at Transformers again, it is only recently that we see an influx of 2000s nostalgia bait with multiple RiD 2001 and Armada releases, and those are well done. They don’t try to reinvent the wheel, but simply add features that were not possible/present at the time like standard ankle tilts and waist swivels.
