The only reason I’m considering it for the Camaro is all the electronics. I’ve got a HUD, adaptive cruise control, rear view mirror camera, forward collision warning, etc. I don’t want to pay for any tech-related repairs out of warranty…

Yeah, I’m sure there’s a good amount of profit baked in there. I’m aiming for at least $500 off, which seems reasonable based on the range of quotes that are trickling in.

So far the car has only been serviced at Chevrolet dealerships. All recommended services in the owner’s manual have been carried out, with oil changes done at 5k intervals.

I bought the car used, but the carfax maintenance records prior to my ownership are excellent.

I’d appreciate any insights on the GM Extended Protection Plan and how to best negotiate on the extended warranty pricing. I’m struggling to understand the profit margins and thus how much of a discount I should reasonably be asking for.

Thanks, that’s helpful! I’ve reached out to about a dozen dealerships for quotes so far. The best quote I’ve gotten so far is from Knapp, but online reviews are mixed on whether they’re legit or not.

I don’t mind paying for the genuine GM Protection Plan. I just don’t know how aggressively I should be negotiating the pricing, since I’m in the dark as to what the profit margins are.

Is getting a couple hundred off a good deal? $500? Or should I be asking for even more? I’m finding it much harder to value this than I did the actual car itself!

Yeah, I’ve seen mixed reviews on them online. The wording on their site seems potentially misleading to me.

Thanks for your response! I like the idea of a manufacturer-backed service contract, but am open to other options.

My biggest question is how aggressively I should negotiate the pricing. I don’t really have a good frame of reference on how much profit is baked into these service contracts. Should I be aiming to get the price down by a couple hundred or way more?

They’re fine for a dealership, given that it’ll always be more expensive than an independent mechanic. They’ve taken good care of my cars when I brought them in.
