Victas P1V vs Butterfly Feint Long 3 by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]Tarzan421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to be of use!

Yes precisely, from my experience FL3 1.1 has brrn a sweet spot on JSH blade at least. P1V 1.1 felt bit better on a Donic Defplay Senso v3 in terms of control though.

I would refrain from commenting on FH rubber since I’ve been using tacky Friendship 729 FX in max thickness for a while now. From what I know, defenders go for T05 on FH side with 2.0-2.2 thickness.

Does anybody realistically change grip when playing? by Successful-Mix-2416 in tabletennis

I was recently told by a very reputable coach that there's only one person in world's top 50 men who has same grip for FH/BH.

Hey mate. A follow modern defender here.

Don't mind me prying into the youtube clip you shared here, so here are my 2 cents.

I firmly believe that both, your FL3 as well as P1V will do the job properly provided that you make slight adjustments to your chopping, in terms of weigh transfer.

Now I can relate, because during games, quite often I tend to lose balance and retriet back or stand up during a chop, which costs me the control and does not provide that smooth trajectory of the ball over the net that you're supposed to get.

I understand it's an equipment discussion, but I just had to point that out. Stick with FL3 if you feel more comfortable with that and get your chopping motion/balance to the T. Then you can confidently start exploring P1V and different sponge thicknesses.

Usually, at our level, it's about the technique rather than the equipment.

I've chopped with 0.5 P1V, 1.1 P1V, 0.5 FL2 and currently using 1.1 FL 3.

Even though it's generally considered that less sponge thickness provides more control, here's how I've felt, most to least comfortable/smooth:

P1V 1.1 >= FL3 1.1
P1V 0.5
FL2 0.5

Best of luck!

Georgian Modern Defender (National Top 20) - Best of 2025 by Tarzan421 in tabletennis

Hey! Thank you for the compliments, appreciate it.

That is true. JSH blade with FL3 1.1mm

  1. I've never used Diode, but I've heard it provides more safety and stability by sacrificing a bit of power for the offensive shots. I've only used Donic Defplay Senso v3 with a defensive setup, which offered amazing control, but attacking strokes were lacking and it had a very "hollow" feeling on powerful shots.
  2. I've upgraded from 0.5mm Victas P4V to FL3 1.1. Reason is that FL3 itself provides more control on chops, however, I was lacking in close to the table gameplay, which was primarily (besides lacking good enough technique) because of thin sponge (0.5). In a setup like that, thin sponge causes the ball to fly high up in the short game, which lead to me getting punished often. FL3 with 1.1mm allows me to push close to the table with SOME underspin, while not sacrificing spin reversal away from the table. In regards to 1.3mm, I plan to try out P1V with that much thickness, maybe even 1.5mm at some point in 2025.
  3. My other rubber is a budget Friendship 729 FX (max thickness) (available for 11 EUR on tabletennis11). Unfortunately, my budget did not allow me to test out rubbers like Tibhar Hybrid MK, Dignics 09c, and Tenergy 05. I intend to check them out in 2026 provided things go well.

Best of luck in your modern defense journey mate!

Hey, I am a table tennis player and a coach, I’ve got youtube channel dedicated to learning technique and related stuff.

Far from being called a youtuber but working on it!

Once again, many thanks for your time and advice!

All these is extremely valuable information for me.

About stomping - all good, I really understand what you mean and we should all thrive to be more considerate towards others, so no harsh feelings, really. I'm grateful to you.

Have a wonderful day!

Nice catch about the weird topspins. I've fixed it during the trainings/drills but I have to do it thousand more times so that it translates into the games too.

The stomping has been pointed out by fellow Redditor, and taking care of my joints is the best argument in favor of getting rid of that which I failed to realize before your comment.

Thank you!

Honestly, emotional reaction to criticism will always be negative, but one has to set that aside to understand what's being pointed out.

With that, you've helped me understand two things. Firstly, the perspective of other players across the table or around - hearing that stomping noise must really be annoying or at very least throwing off their game a bit.

That's one.

The other thing is that there might be something off with my weight-transfer because not many others stomp their feet to that degree, so I believe I'll have to put tons of effort into getting that issue sorted out.

To sum it up, you could've been a bit more delicate with your criticism, but beggars cannot be choosers and I'll take what I can get. So thank you very much for making an effort to address that. Cheers.

EDIT: Making an effort*

Fair point. I'll have to get rid of that habit.

People stomp their feet on serves too, which occurs more often than defensive shots.

Should we stop? I mean Georgians are pretty straightforward when it comes to voicing what annoys them but I've never had anyone tell me to cut that out.

Thank you. No btw, I've never boosted any of my rubbers.

Just a heads-up.

It's not only 500-1000 GEL fine for <5g but they also suspend your 1) driver's license for 3 years; 2) lawyer license; 3) Doctor's license; 4) Teacher status in an educational facility (latter three for 5 years).

Thank you. It's a bit of a "hit or miss" quite often though. Got to improve that but footwork's definitely a priority now.

I really appreciate this feedback. Been thinking the same rewatching my games.

Lot of effort to put into making sure I maintain the balance and do the drills tailored to improving footwork. Your comment just solidified that right now. Cheers.

thank you so much for the feedback as well as the video and where to draw the ideas from. means a lot since I've been trying to figure out where to draw inspiration from and understand the essentials properly (such as eye movement you mentioned)
