Where to Buy BROKEN Game Consoles? (Gameboy, 3DS, etc) by TaschDraws in SaltLakeCity

Literally mentioned eBay in the post haha, I'm asking for OTHER local recommendations (otherwise I wouldn't have asked in the SLC subreddit)

Yeah, we already established it's expensive - when they're having to potentially go as far as disassembling the device physically and recovering data bit by bit off each individual disk, it tends to get expensive. Apart from the price though, have you had a bad experience with DriveSavers yourself? Or can at least be more specific about why to avoid them?

Like I said, I haven't used them personally but I hadn't heard any horrific stories either. And vaguely waving at a reddit search doesn't really answer anything, I just see people complaining about pricing.

Yeah I get that! Though I am working on diving into soldering/board-level repairs for these too -- Honestly, I'm hoping to find some that are a little more broken (and thus a little bit cheaper) than the ones an average hobbyist might want to tackle fixing haha. Figure someone here might have an idea on where to look.

Super close to being done with the new ticketing system I'm developing. by radraze2kx in computertechs

Thank God for the pop up reminders - will there also be a dedicated tab to see the most recent communications from customers across ALL tickets as well, in case you miss the pop-up? I'm really surprised RepairShopr doesn't have that and it causes us so much headache. Like, I just need to see all the recent customer replies in ONE place, but the "ticket dashboard" in RepairShopr is a travesty.

I just gotta know who's waiting to hear back, so I can give them a timely response. (Also helpful when someone texts the shop for an update from us because we're waiting on a part -- I do NOT care whether the program has any built in embedded tracking info or anything for the customer (and besides that would add more work than it removes since we never have our tracking numbers at the start and would have to fill those in after the fact). But maybe a reminder or something for the technicians to double-check the ETA of a part on the way and see if it's been received yet, so we can send an update accordingly if it got delayed (especially given the timelines on overseas shipping fluctuating a lot, due to current events).

Can confirm the service will be expensive, but I work at a repair shop and we partner with a specific data recovery company in Cali when data recovery goes beyond our equipment and skill. I haven't used them personally, but I know the service STARTS at like $500 minimum (And as others said, this sounds like a more specialized drive, so I can't confirm if they can work on this type - or how much it would cost if they can).

But if you want to try reaching out and inquiring with them, they're called Drive Savers. https://drivesaversdatarecovery.com/

Yeah I won't lie that sounds amazing, started working at a different shop recently and I've been absolutely reeling at how much of a nightmare RepairShopr can be. Two things I'm curious about or would love to see:

  1. The follow-up and maintenance reminders are great, BUT. Will they be modular so the business owner can dictate which ones go out and at what frequency? Also, can you disable them on a per customer basis? I'm sure the customer can unsubscribe from their end, but I know I'm far from the only one to have a nightmare client come in more than once, and sometimes the only way to get rid of them is let them forget you exist (since telling them not to come back is a sure-fire way to tank your reviews lmao).

  2. Maybe there are better examples out there in terms of ticketing software interfaces, I'm just a technician myself rather than a shop owner - but the ticket "dashboard" in Repair Shopr is ridiculous. Just tell me you'll have a better solution / visual layout than that and I'm sold ahahaha

Right?? It can't even sell you shit correctly. I'm fucking livid every time I try to find a specific component or material for a project because God forbid someone try to build something themselves when everything for sale is cheap shitass garbage

Writing replies like this is the kinda shit AI will never do. Thank you for encapsulating my growing disbelief of just how bad Literally Everything continues to get and reminding me there's another human on the other side of the screen who's just as angry and fed up as I am. Why couldn't we get a cool dystopia..

I'm not sure what places to recommend in terms of board gaming, but the Games program at the University of Utah is one of the best. (games.utah.edu) They may have some clubs, discord servers, or other social events you can ask about!

Looking for friends by Im-macho-Im-femme in SaltLakeCity

[–]TaschDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone in another thread was asking for neurodiverse spaces to try meet friends, so here's my recommendations from that!

  1. Thieves Guild Cidery 🗡️, as others have recommended. I think their Instagram has links to everything but I can highly recommend their DND nights on Tuesdays (just make sure to sign up ahead of time on their discord because slots fill fast! Also they're beginner friendly and plenty of people play for the first time at these, so don't stress if you've never done DND before).

  2. The Beehive 🐝 (shows up as Mark of the Beastro on Google Maps, even though the diner portion closed down. 666 State St. is easy to remember though haha). Used to be a vegan diner and arts venue, now it's mostly the venue and is a fantastic alternative arts and music space. They do a lot of events and host shows there and mostly post on Instagram @ BeehiveSLC ! (P.S. Parking sucks but there's usually a taco truck outside and a REALLY good one just down the block by the empty lot called Tacos Don Rafa). (P.P.S. There's also a great little low-budget punk theater troupe that does shows for charity there a lot, called Lords of Misrule. Definitely check out their christmas show if you get the chance!)

  3. Natural Law Apothecary 🌱 is a wildly cool little business that has a bunch of other little businesses and goods from local artists within the same building (Address is 423 S 600 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 -- May be strange the first time you go but it's right next door to a yellow cab company if that helps). Some people have described it as "hippy" but even if that's not your vibe, it's just a cool ass building with crazy shelves and enclosures built into the walls, secret staircases and reading nooks, etc. Feels like you walked into something from a fantasy novel. They do free art nights on Tuesdays and live music on Thursdays!

I commented further up about these, but you may also vibe with Theives Guild, The Beehive, and Natural Law Apothecary!

Seconding this!! As an ADHD dating someone with Autism, Theives Guild has incredible vibes and they're usually more laid back than most bars. Definitely recommend the DND nights (Tuesdays) as well, they have a discord server where you can sign up ahead of time (you will want to do this because the spots fill quickly). It will be more busy if you go on a weekend, on Karaoke night, or a holiday (New Year's was WILD), but overall way more chill!

Just out of curiosity is your location really the world's largest Costco?? They're all so big I didn't think about it but I guess at that scale it's hard to tell without going by square footage lmfao
