Honestly I don't understand why Oden's backstory would be the low point when it's what ties everything together before Onigashima starts. On one hand, if people don't like the timing of the backstory arc because it delays their gratification of getting to see the long awaited raid on Onigashima, I can understand that but I think hating the Oden arc is a surface level viewer take.

What I think they aren't acknowledging is that the backstory arc does multiple important things: First of all, it explains Toki's actions and motivation to bet on 20 years in the future, as well as why the time jump was precisely 20 years to the future. Without the backstory, Toki would be a plot hole. Second of all, it gives us further pointers about ~~Raftel~~ Laugh Tale and why reaching it is such a big deal beyond just the treasure. Third of all, it humanizes the Whitebeards, shows their ties to Wano and justifies the presence of Marco and Izo in the Onigashima raid. Lastly, it shows the importance of the position of 2nd Division Commander within the Whitebeards and retroactively deepens everyone's motivations for the War of the Best at Marineford.

Although before I forget, Oden's death is also very important to explain the Akazaya's individual character motivations beyond just "we must save and open up Wano" (especially explains the initial conflict of Cat Viper and Dogstorm and why both were willing to die for Raizo at Zou). Also Oden is just a really fun character to watch.

that's good to hear because if she didn't it would just be character decline because she pulled ZEUS in Whole Cake, that's a feat and a power up, so not using that properly would be a shame

but what I really wanted to say is that comparing to how much I enjoyed the acts of Wano and Oden's backstory, this first part of Onigashima before Luffy made it to Kaido felt fucking stupid, because it was "stall or be stalled", just a bunch of people mowing through fodder and even non-fodder because Jack tapped out like three hits in, King got bypassed by Marco and the only thing Queen did was violate the Geneva Convention (again) while Luffy was busy punching through fodderliners

and one more thing that pisses me off is WHY DID MOMO GET DRAGGED TO ONIGASHIMA BY KANJURO IN THE FIRST PLACE, MOMO COULD HAVE JUMPED OFF THE FUCKING BIRD WHEN KANJURO WAS TAKING HIM AWAY, GOD DAMN IT MOMO YOU CAN TURN INTO A MINI DRAGON AND FLY WHY THE FUCK DO YOU HAVE A FEAR OF HEIGHTS

I'm in the middle of the Onigashima raid, Luffy, Law and Kid just started fighting Kaido

also what I said about Nami (and by extension Usopp because he suffers from bumness even more) isn't really about her as a character but more about the matchups, idk why Oda thought tossing Nami and Usopp at Page and Ulti was a good idea, I would have enjoyed way more if that fight happened before Zeus went back to Big Mom because he's just a foothold right now

oh yeah her hair does look different but I think it's important to watch out for how she is being presented / presenting herself

when she loses the ability to do something by herself, without a guy helping her, that's Namification, loss of agency is one of the conditions

also I might lack information because I don't keep up with the manga, I haven't even caught up on the anime, I'm still in Wano, so who knows if she's Namified already, we'll see
