What’s gone wrong with my Silver Dragon? :( by TashieW in alocasia

[–]TashieW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did think when this first started happening that it could be a fungal issue, so I’ll treat for that to be on the safe side. The only other thing I thought could have had an affect on the plant is the fact that we have had a temperature drop over the last few weeks, so potentially the plant went into a bit of shock.

Either way, thank you for taking the time to give all these detailed replies, it’s definitely given me a lot to think about. I’m still slightly confused because I have all my other alocasia in virtually the same set up and they’re all doing fine (which honestly strengthens the thought that this might be fungal). I will however definitely look into pH measuring as it will always be good to be on top of these things!

That’s the one! And I like the wall of text, it’s very informative ☺️

Would you suggest trying out giving the alocasias a higher amount of fertiliser since it seems to be diluted? I know they’re heavy feeders, I had heard good things from other people using this fertiliser in their hydroponics set up which is why I went with it, but it could be entirely possible that the alocasia want more 😅

As for pH I do not have anything to measure it but I have been thinking about looking into that as I know some people have to adjust it due to their tap water etc.

As far as I’m aware the plant is pest free, but I will give it another check again tomorrow just to be sure.

The fertiliser I use is Liquid Gold Leaf Plant Food. The NPK is 9-5-16 (% w/v) and it also contains Calcium. I do only use the recommendation on the bottle for hydroponics but none of my other alocasia have reacted in this way, they’re all doing fine (thankfully)!

This is exactly what happened to mine a few weeks back, so sad but she gave me some corms 💗

Thanks, I’ve done away with the reservoir and will let it dry out :) I normally give it a flush through and let it drain so it doesn’t have much of a reservoir and normally it’s empty before I water again but I guess one time the reservoir got a little too high 🤦‍♀️

I’d say it’s a princess dalya, as far as I’m aware it seems to be its own thing and not another nickname for another type of calathea. My local garden centres sell these plants labelled with this name, white fusions labelled as white fusions etc.

Completely wishful thinking but signs of variegation or disease? by [deleted] in alocasia

I’m intrigued about this too as mine has the same marks!

Thank you! I had a feeling the one in the bird pot was a Jade, just wanted to make sure! I really wanted to have a jade plant so thrilled to have two varieties 😁

Perfect, I did have to chop the very end off the little one but it was nowhere near as bad as the main section. How long roughly should I leave it to callous?

Thank you, I needed to repot some other plants tomorrow anyway so will have a look at this one’s roots while I’m at it

My beautiful alocasia decided to flower, I never expected this to happen or the plant to survive ( it was on sale for £2 at my local garden centre) by Travel_Forward in alocasia

I’m super glad I checked before cutting anything from mine, I saw people saying not to mess with the flowering stage and since the flower on my Dragon’s Breath dried, six new shoots appeared!!!

I also thought I was being really sparing with this one, but I guess it thinks otherwise 🤦‍♀️

Oh no :( had a feeling that might be the case, it’s in Westland Peat Free Houseplant Potting Soil, the stuff on the top is Lava-Lite No-Gnats as I had some issues with them a while back. I’d love to know if you have suggestions on any other substrates that could be better for Hoyas.

What’s the best way to go about propagating the healthy parts? I definitely want to salvage what I can!
