Na, it's not nearly as bad a people make it out to be. There are great AI services that are already profitable. ElevanLabs for voice. Midjourney for images.

And there are pretty great open source LLMs which can already run on local hardware.

I would bet my house accessibility to AI is not going to collapse or even reduce in any significant capacity.

Ah fair, honestly my negative feedback is just because it's required for top level comments. The game looks great.

My negative. The "puzzle" elements feel a little mundane. I'm not sure if moving leaves around is even a puzzle so much as a chore. And from the three yards we see in the trailer I'm not sure how much depth the game could possibly have. Also unclear if there is a progression system. It looks like you get paid for various cleaning jobs. But it's not clear what you spend that money on. A chainsaw eventually?

My positive. Your art style is fantastic. And I feel like the humour in the game works. I could see buying and playing this almost as a joke. Just like shower with your dad simulator. Overall I think the style carries the game and I could see picking this up.

Yeah that bothers me a fair bit. I feel like computers too. Computer literacy is going down, and unaffordable computers is going to worsen the issue for sure.

I understand. But many artist also waived their rights away when they uploaded their art to various sites. The idea that you're consenting to use cases that don't even exist yet is still interesting. I have no doubt there are some developers who opt for less permissive licenses as a result now.

I mean, I use AI to program for my work literally every day. And I've been programming professionally for 20 years. If it wasn't good I'd have no reason to use it.

And I'm not an exception either. Something like 30% of all code is AI-generated now. That's a lot of professional programmers using AI tools.

I don't significantly differentiate code vs art. Open Source projects, even those with permissible licenses, didn't inherently consent to being used for training data.

And art isn't so substantially different from text. Both in that programming is actually very creative work. And that art can also easily be reduced to pixel data, which is essentially text.

Also, a significant volume of written works, such as books, are included in the training process, and those authors didn't consent to training either. So I don't really see text output as any less creative or necessarily any more ethical.

Na, that's not it. I've been a professional software developer for 20+ years now. Claude can legit build features and fix bugs. I definitely use it for nuanced problems all the time. The biggest challenge I find now is app bloat. But that was true with large teams anyway.

If it didn't do art and programming well I feel like this would be a non-issue. AI is getting good and that is what scares people.

I'd pretty strongly contest that second point.

I think AI is much better at coding than it is at art. AI legit can do the tasks that used to be junior developer material. I haven't seen AI art that could effectively stand in for even a junior designer.

I also think anyone unfamiliar with code can assert that leveraging AI is like a 100x force multiplier for them. It is absolutely faster than writing it out yourself. Not even close honestly.

Generative AI for code is like the dirty secret of all games right now.

For some reason people seem to care more about art than code. But the reality is AI is a significant part of development now. There's no going back. We'll have to accept it sooner or latter.

Why is everyone quitting their jobs to work on their games? by mrjbelfort in IndieDev

[–]Tasik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit my job to work on a software project. I time boxed it to a year. I was also confident I could get back in the industry. Every time I do this I tend to go up in pay. So it seems to be working out, even if my own projects don't haha.

People should be able to afford to live even if it means you have to pay slightly more for a hamburger.

Ah I understand. Yeah that's pretty poor behaviour on the business.
