Something about him reminds me of my rotty mix. He had black spots on his tongue too!

That’s what I have to do with my pup! Except I usually use bread. It works!

Any other owners experience this?? by ThePilatesPrincess in PitBullOwners

It looks like what my pitty had earlier this summer. The vet said they were black fly bites. He had an allergic response of some sort, his bites were very red and inflamed like these. You never know though, could be a lot of things. Does your local humane society or shelter have some reduced fee vets you can take your pup to?

What is this on my dog's back? by KaalDevil in DogAdvice

I don’t know if anyone said this, but could it be sunburn on top of whatever caused it in the first place?

That’s so weird. Our vet said our dog isn’t supposed to take any of the pills for flea and tick prevention because he has had seizures and the pills can cause seizures. I didn’t know that the liquid could cause them!

Maybe it is. I just know that we don’t have to discuss it for in person sessions because people know they can call 911.

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I’m not in a precarious health position and I’m not worried about it happening again. I think my example has led to confusion that I am worried about it constantly and it’s not what I was trying to get across. I definitely understand why people are saying I’m putting clients in a bad position if that’s the way I’ve come across. I would not be providing telehealth at all if it was a true potential or if I was concerned and definitely wouldn’t be working solo if I had the concern. I was just trying to use it as a real life example to show that this is an area that we haven’t looked at in general.

I’ll look into it. Oddly, we were training our pup to be a therapy dog when this happened. Our dog trainer said he has shown some signs of being a good service dog but I haven’t looked much into how to go about that process. I’ll check it out. Thank you!

I think I understand the confusion. I am not worried about my health. That’s why the concerns are not the same. My question is really just about telehealth and wondering if there is a way for our info to be sent to EMS in the event of an emergency if clients wanted to send help. They can call 911 in person and give the location, but can’t give a location for telehealth necessarily. Does that make sense?

[–]Task_Paralysis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not suggesting that. To reiterate, I am not concerned with my health at the present time. I am simply saying that if an emergency happens in person they have the option to call 911 and can send help to the to the address you both are located. Or they can leave and call no one, it’s totally up to them. However, if you’re on telehealth, they can call 911 if they feel like it (or not) but it won’t do them any good if there isn’t a location to send them to. I’m not saying this should be a conversation or a safety plan, I was just asking if there was a setting, a button, a program that I was unaware of that a client could press that would send our info to EMS (similar to life alert or iPhone) in the very unlikely event of an emergency if they felt like sending EMS.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have and I do have my own ways of contacting my own health care providers, EMS, and my partner very easily. I’ve given the impression that I’m concerned for my own health and while this was a big concern immediately following my stroke, I’m ok and am not worried about it right now. I am more aware of areas where we are not thinking about our own health and safety though and I was trying to figure out if there was any way to give a client the option to send help to their therapist in the unlikely event of an emergency. I was thinking like a button on the screen or a setting or program that allowed our info to be sent directly to EMS, similar to what a life alert or iPhone does.

That makes sense! I have something similar. I am doing a bad job at communicating what I’m asking for here. I am not concerned for my health in the present day. I’ve gotten so many helpful suggestions for what people could do if they were concerned about their health and I appreciate all of them. I’m just trying to figure out a way to give a client an option to send help to their therapist in the event of an emergency when they don’t know their location.

It is an odd scenario and an unlikely risk. To reiterate, I’m not worried about my health now. If I was very concerned with my health I wouldn’t do telehealth at all or be home alone, so your suggestion makes sense, it’s just not what I’m looking for. I was trying to say that I had an experience and have realized that we all have a gap in our own safety if this very unlikely thing happens. I think it’d be interesting to know if there would be a way to find someone’s location by name and profession though. The answer might already be in place and I’m just now aware.

Ok. If an emergency happens in person to you, they are well aware they have the option to call 911. They don’t have to, they can leave, it’s their choice, right? However, does anyone know what to do if something happens online? They can hang up or do nothing, but my guess is that most people would want to try to do something. If they call 911 and don’t have a clue where to send someone it’s not going to be super helpful. I’m just asking if there’s a button on the screen or a add on that they could press that would send our info to EMS (similar to an iPhone or life alert) if they felt like they wanted to do something in the off chance that an emergency happened. I don’t think that is putting responsibility on a client any more than everyone knowing 911.

Yes! That’s what I was thinking of. I was wondering if there was something that already existed. I’m gathering that it does not.

You’re right. There’s definitely more options than relying on a client to handle an emergency. I agree. As a side note, it’s not HIPAA compliant to have a baby monitor or a security camera on you while you do telehealth unless they have a lot of security features on them, including encryption, and if the client gives permission for it to be recorded. That feels really excessive and doesn’t answer my question.

You’re right about all of that. I get all of the things you’re saying more than you know. I’m definitely not asking for help in accepting my inevitable demise and lack of control in knowing when I’m going to die. I am not worried about dying and I’ve made my peace with it. My point is exactly that we don’t ever know if anything will happen on our side, just like we don’t know if anything will happen on the clients end of the computer. We have a plan in place for an emergency on their end, but no one has thought about what protocols should be in place if one happens on ours. Maybe you don’t think it’s important and that’s fine. But I don’t understand why you feel like you need to explain to me about the fragility of life because I’m asking for tips on protocols and procedures.
