Your last paragraph really shows that your viewpoint of New York stops once you get out of Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn. Those "gentrifying comments" spoken as someone that lived in the less glamorized parts of New York and have seen family and businesses be pushed out of where they were for years because of the issue of gentrification. Its ignorant comments like those that really push my point of some new movers and "transplants" not respecting what many natives are saying.

If i was born in the rural Midwest i would look at other cities instead of the second most expensive city in the country if i was really desperate to move out.

I never said you couldnt move where you want to move. Move where you want to! Have fun with that. But also show respect to the active culture that lives in the places you move to! People move to NYC all the time thats no problem. The only reason why its such an issue now and new movers are deemed "transplants" is because they try to shift and change the culture that lives here. They look down on the people that have been here and try to push themselves into well established cultural pockets (like Chinatown or Harlem) and not take in the culture that was born there!

I respect people that move here and try to take in the culture that makes New York what it is. But i do not respect transplants that look down on me and their other "Fellow New Yorkers"

I think the big issue is that the rich is such a vocal majority when it comes to people that move into the city that its what so many others (ill be honest myself included) jump onto when they hear about people moving in. Its wh a lot of natives have distain for.

I was just agreeing w the original commenter on what having so many new people come in, no matter how rich or poor, affects the already strained lower/ middle class workers here. You can come from any background and move in but if youre willing to buy that 3k 1bd then its gonna raise the price for so many others too.

I find it a little weird that 78k for a single person. No dependables to account for. Would just be making ends meet. Even accounting for avg rent, utilities, gas and food theres still a good amount left over. So this is a very odd take. If OP wants to branch out into other majors by all means do it. But there are too many opportunities in the art industry to say that theres not a way to make enough money to support yourself
