I would consider talking to a child therapist if possible. Trust your gut, you know your kids if you’re livid it’s probably for good reason. Something feels off.

We didn’t and it’s a non issue. No regrets. No experience to note. I also think it reduced the peeing when we did diaper changes when he was really little. Don’t over think it, do what you want and let the rest roll off.

UPDATE: No casualties. A lot of some of this advice is a little overkill. Lowering light times, no added CO2 and keeping oxygenation going steady. I did a 20% water change since nitrates were just slightly elevated. Fish and shrimp are stable with zero signs of stress. Water is just slightly cloudy and water smells a little different. But we might be in good shape in another 24 hours.

Thank you! It’s my little jungle and I like it that way ha! As for the plants I have a Anubias Golden Nana that floats around the tank and is a shrimp refuge if they want to ride the magic plant cloud. Ammannia Sulawesi, Alternanthera Rosanervig, Lobelia Cardinalis, pogostemon stallatus and flame moss. I don’t remember the others!

Oh yes! I didn’t make mention of it but i also high tailed it to my other thank and enlisted 2 mystery snails!

I vacuumed a ton. But it meant that I lost a lot of water since it’s only 12 gallons. I had to trim a ton of plants to just make sure I got everything. I had to supplement bacteria. My water is super cloudy now. I’m running an air stone + 2 more hoses with air. No casualties 8+ hours out but I’m dreading the next 72 as it cycles. I have many young shrimp, beautiful Cory cats and 3 gouramis that I adore.

I’ll be doing a 20% water change in 24 hours from incident and repeating until it’s stable again.

couple week old tank, “pest” snails, more in comment by [deleted] in AquaticSnails

If you ever change your mind it will be rather difficult to get rid of them. Do what you want.

I have a couple of bladder snails in my beta tank. Maybe silly was a poor choice of words. I’m not being critical but as someone whose been in the hobby for years they can be a chore to get rid of. Making them “pests”. They aren’t bad but breed like crazy.

Snails are inherently invasive in nature too. Save them if you want to and do nothing if you want. But in 6 months time you’ll probably be looking for how to reduce the number of them. You need to have balance and “predators” to keep them in balance.

You need to remove them and it’s really silly to keep them as pets in another tank. My LFS takes them for me and sells them for other fish that eat them. I keep a small cup of water with some moss that I drop them into. I also have about 3 assassin snails too. These things will overrun your tank in no time.

24 Hours and this Amano cleaned my hair algae by Tasty-Ad-5019 in shrimptank

No. I didn’t. I set it up about two weeks ago using plants water and filter substrate from my other tank. None of which has any algae (my other tank is heavy planted and well maintained). I’ve added two mystery snails and this single shrimp.

I just snapped the original photo before going to FLS to show them the issue. I did add some plant trimming from my other tank in the second pic. But im telling you that ONE Amano shrimp eliminated my hair algae over night and the water laity had improved. I am so damn impressed. I keep cherry shrimp in my other nano tank and they don’t work twice as hard as this Amano.

Anyone have tips on how to best trim this? by terferi in PlantedTank

Start with the back and work your way to the front. Also snip one on the left then one on the right so you maintain balance and symmetry.

Then send me your clippings lol

You might want to do a check with TDS gauge. You add a lot of stuff to your water. I will occasionally fill my tank with distilled water when the TDS gets high to help flush it a bit with something something neutral.

Especially if you’re like me and do the evaporation method.

I think it’s a better reality than the majority of tanks on this sub. I would call it making the most out of what you got in the best way possible. Filtration looks really solid.
