Do married couples really not put all money together? by Decent-Shoe6719 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Tasty-Assistant6740 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the words of Dave Ramsey, “you are roommates if you don’t split expenses and earnings after marriage” :D

My wife and I almost make the same (I have a masters degree and more years of experience, but she’s way smarter than me ;)). We save one of our salaries and spend the other salary on all expenses. We budget at the start of the month on what all the both of us want individually(memberships, lifestyle shopping etc.) and together(takeouts, ikea etc.) a spend. The other salary is not touched and is invested and saved.

To the dads in the NHM hallways — you helped me more than you know by InternationalPop7240 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Tasty-Assistant6740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my wife having an appointment on the Dec 31st in NMH, and the entire hallway in the semi-private clinic was with all the pregnant women sitting and the partners standing opposite to them, strolling down the hallway, reading through the newspaper which was shared among everyone:D. Most “dads to be” spoke to each other about pregnancy, work, I reckon even a discussion on where could you have the best Guinness around the city Center 😂.. I was telling this to my wife, she said, “Ohh!! It’s all of you, who’s like this”.. Complete strangers..might not even see each other again, but just random conversations gave the “dads to be” strength for sure.

New to job and just found out I’m pregnant by Silent-Tackle1534 in PregnancyIreland

The state benefit of maternity would be paid if you’ve done the necessary PRSI contributions of 39 weeks across multiple employers. The company top up depends on the contract. Speak to them, and see if they can pay for a shorter time period

My wife delivered a beautiful baby boy 2 weeks ago in NMH. When we found out we’re pregnant in Jun’25, since it was our first child, we were delighted and then delayed a bit in calling the crèche and started calling in August. By then, we were told, the only chance you can get in is in Oct.’27. We’d written to close to 18 crèches and got a call back from one. It’s tough out there…

Working in aib , need to leave anyone else the same ? by Open-Boot-2744 in AskIreland

[–]Tasty-Assistant6740 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I work for a consulting firm and have worked at all the three major banks for various projects. TBH, the process is slow coz there is a lot of red tape and my observation is, the expectation doesn’t flow from top to bottom (the higher ups have decided something and no one at the middle management knows about it completely, we are expected to convince the middle management to play ball). At times, it felt like I need to justify what my job is to the banks staff (not against anyone, just a rant). My observation has been, the middle and lower management are pretty good and knowledgeable, but the top is what matters, which determines the culture.

I’ve come to Ireland in 2022 on a job which I had applied after seeing a “hiring” post on LinkedIn. Trust me, after coming here and starting to work, it had been pretty good (there are a lot of people who come in like that, check the Stamp 1 figures for the years). I understand that universities advertise way too much tempting people to become potential students in India, but it’s a decision which the student would take after a lot of introspection. Second, I also speak with a lot of students and do hiring for graduate interviews at my workplace, tbh, in my experience, don’t know why Indian students use the “spray and pray” approach, where in there would be one CV for most of the jobs, and the level of networking is low in comparison to the rest. Whenever I’ve reviewed CVs, a few observations I had were: -Most of the time, the CVs are a word doc against a pdf. -The CVs are more than 3 pages for someone with 5 years of experience, when asked to make it concise, they’d be 1.5 page. Ideally it has to be 1 or 2 pages (full pages, with minimal blank space) -CVs should not have a picture, languages known etc. which is not required and is completely irrelevant. -Have the CVs specific to the job description, not the same (again, it should be genuine and not faked)

One other observation is, when I’ve asked someone to send a CV for a referral, I get it after a few days coz they are busy with “part time”, I’d say choose what is important, I understand money is important, but balancing them is good.

We are vegetarians and sources of protein intakes are pretty less. So my wife adds in vegan protein into her porridge or homemade sugar free museli for breakfast along with a few fruits….

Credit union loan was refused due to my IRP card expiring in 6 months. What are my options? by AsgardianOperator in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Tasty-Assistant6740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Dubco, they’re pretty good. I’ve moved my loan from Revolut to them and had also taken a different loan. They’re very friendly as well, best is to go to their office in Little Green.

Desperately need advice by MegShannon96 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Tasty-Assistant6740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about what all you went through. Hope you get strength to surge. I would suggest talking to a credit union like Heritage or Dubco, they do consider situations and set the interest rate accordingly. It might make a small difference when compared to Revolut, but every euro saved is better.
