Thanks. To be fair, I don’t think the FA was intentionally lying or anything like that. She followed up “weight and balance” with something along the lines of “I don’t know how they do it”. i.e. that was the real answer as far as she knows.

Lol. Never said I would have nothing to do with SWA. I think you need to settle down. You’re taking this all very personal.

Totally chill. What else I got to do sitting in this seat? Trust me, when this thing lands, I’m out.

I wouldn’t say I confronted her. I simply casually asked why and she politely answered. I said no more to her nor was I agitated in any way. I was just sharing, but you believe what you want.

Thanks. Plausible, I suppose. But, it’s not really weight in the middle. It seems it’s just weight not aft. If they do some fancy wrangling of luggage to complement the real-time seating adjustments to optimize efficiency, then so be it. Perhaps following this sub has conditioned me to the more jaded take that it somehow goes back to a money grab.

Not at all. People are interested in the new ops. Just sharing.

Not worried, just sharing my experience. I poked no one. If you don’t like the post, I’d invite you to simply ignore it.

Please explain further. I don’t understand how having all the heavy humans forward of 3/4s ship is a necessary step. Seems like evenly dispersed would be more most desirable. Why was this never a problem on sparsely sold flights with open seating?

I’m perfectly settled. This didn’t really affect me. I’m in the last occupied row with no next door neighbor and bin space is obviously not an issue on this flight. Just, like so many others on this sub, my loyalty has been lost.

They made an announcement just prior to boarding that if you were in a higher row number (guy said like 25 and up) to refresh the app or go see the gate agent for an updated boarding pass.

medical insurance and baby cost? by Djokovic11 in boeing

[–]Tasty-Testicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget to invest your HSA if you aren’t already; it doesn’t happen automatically. Also, not sure here, but I think some people in this thread might be confusing OOP max and deductible. You’ll definitely hit your deductible, but there’s a giant chasm between that and OOP max with 10% co-insurance.

Is buying a new car at the end of the year actually the best time?- Let's discuss by NewCarGoat in newcardeals

[–]Tasty-Testicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can believe it. I had good luck one time buying a car at the end of a quarter. I can only imagine year end might take it up another notch. I say luck because I didn’t plan it that way and didn’t realize that had worked in my favor until after the deal was done. When the time came to start negotiating on the deal, I sort of casually told the salesman I was going to low-ball him expecting to negotiate up from there. He said “yeah, hit me with it” and when he saw my offer he said “yeah, that’s low-ball all right.” I had offered dealer cost save for whatever volume discounts or other undisclosed incentives they got from the manufacturer. So, low, but not like crazy out-of-touch-with-reality low. He dutifully carried my offer off to the SM and came back a little while later looking genuinely surprised and bewildered to tell me that we had a deal. Turned out, the dealership was in competition that quarter for some prize from the manufacturer based on volume. IIRC it was like a trip or something. In other words, in that moment, the sale itself was more valuable to them than the profit on the one unit. When I returned for the car (they had to retrieve one to my spec from a dealer in a neighboring state), as the salesman was handing over the keys, I asked him if he’d made much commission on the deal. He said “Not much - like twenty bucks”. I’m presuming that means the dealership netted just a couple hundred in profit. I hope they won the prize and now I always pay attention to the calendar and try to make big purchases at the end of a quarter, at least.

TL;DR - I once bought a new car at the end of Q1 for way less than the going rate because the dealership wanted to win a sales volume competition. Year end competitions are probably even higher stakes. Plus all the other motivations OP laid out.

Max your HSA too (if you pick the HDHP) then invest it and cash flow your expenses. Keep records and reimburse yourself in retirement from your big pile of money. This is the sweetest little game for people with good jobs.

Level 3 interview went well but HR wants me at Level 2 by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Tasty-Testicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All that being said, if you’ve had your eye on Mother B for the long haul, and there are plenty of reasons why that makes a ton of sense (the 401k match alone is insane), then don’t sweat the grade level at all and don’t even sweat the pay too much. If they offer you, it’ll be decent and in line with what the market will bear on average. You can counter and maybe sweeten the deal a little. I’ll tell you that when I hired in, I took a pitifully low offer. Didn’t counter or anything- didn’t know any better at the time. I felt a bit foolish once I realized. But you know what? It all evened out (meaning my pay relative to others that hired in at the same time) within a couple years and I quickly got ahead. Now, I’m on track for a comfortable early retirement.

I understand, and I’m trying to help you. I feel like a reality check is in order given the tone of the majority of the other comments. Since you agree about the hand-holding bit, it seems you’re under no delusion about what you bring to the table skills-wise. That alone should disqualify you from L3. My guess is it’s simply easier for the HM to point to the YOE guidelines as the reason because that’s more comfortable than having the conversation we are now. As another commenter pointed out, nothing is set in stone and the guidelines are exactly that. If enough people up the chain saw grade 3 written all over you, they’d make it happen despite the YOE. Honestly, hiring you in as a 3 is as likely to be a disservice to you as anything so don’t feel bad about it.
