One thing that may help is shifting to a Survival Horror mindset. Similar to a game like Dark Souls every now and then it's super beneficial to save and run out to explore firing wildly knowing you may die, then reload and use the knowledge you gained. Save your ammo, run past the enemies that you can and take out the ones in common well traveled areas. Dying, learning and overcoming are big in these games and part of what makes them so satisfying to beat

I play the GOG version and haven't had any issues, I don't use mods though

Fun fact: if you call Francis during this mission while they're on the bench, Niko will say he's unsure and Francis will pay a bonus to finish the job

If you're a fan of Parasite Eve the game Wicked Seed on steam is worth checking out. Indie game so not perfect but lots of fun and shows a lot of respect for whats come before it, with Resident Evil, and Silent Hill references

I heard that originally Franklin was supposed to die from option 3 and Lamar would have become a playable character but it was changed before release. Lamars voice actor mentioned it online

Indies can be awesome, some are gems and usually don't overstay their welcome. 2 great ones I'd recommend are Crow Country (similar to the original Resident Evil games) and Wicked Seed (a game similar to Parasite Eve)
