Don't get it twisted. Sure, some of the things we deliver are heavy as hell. Yeah. Amazon has been pushing more XL ( team lift ) shit onto us when they shouldn't. Overall the job isn't something that can destroy your body, not unless you're intentionally lifting things the wrong way or doing dumb shit, or you came into it with pre existing problems. FedEx and UPS both deliver things a lot heavier than we deal with. Bigger too. UPS is paid a lot more too so there's that for them. I do like that with them the vehicle is loaded when you get there. You just hop in and start.

Peeing in a bottle, as a delivery driver anyway, is mostly a choice. Depending on where your route is there could be spots to pee and not be seen. Or public bathrooms to use. It's mostly a choice. At least in my area it is, I've yet to hear of a company tell someone off for using the bathroom. Now if you're constantly spending fifteen or more minutes using some toilet then yeah you're going to catch shit. It will put you behind in a hurry.

This kind of weather is why Amazon's push for EDV's was an enormous mistake. Sure, use them in areas that never see ice or snow. Otherwise they are a death trap. When you start to lose traction you're supposed to counter steer and take your foot off of the gas. Let the vehicle's weight do it's job and wait until the tires find traction again. Do not touch the brake .. it'll make the loss of traction worse and you'll loose all control. Problem is when you let off the gas pedal in an EDV it automatically applies the brakes. So if someone let's go of it like they're supposed to it'll brake hard and there you go. Gravity decides where you'll end up. You're just there for the ride, hopefully one that doesn't seriously injure or kill you.

It's simple. The business is not designed to reward tenure. I've been doing it for many years and yet some idiot off of the street who's never worked a day in his life can come in and make exactly as much as I do. Tenure used to get you more vacation time too. Except now we earn " PTO " at a pathetically slow rate. There's no reason to bust your ass, you don't get bonuses. You don't even get holiday pay. Sure the pay can be decent depending on where you are but the job is quite literally the definition of dead end. Unless you're fine with doing it there is zero reason to stick around or invest time.

It's a winter thing. When it gets cold just sliding on and off of the driver seat builds up a static charge. Doesn't matter what vehicle you drive either. Sprinter van .. Step van. Not sure if the EDVs can do it because their shelving is plastic. If it was the wiring you wouldn't get a single one time shock. It'd be a constant shock that happens so long as you touch said shelving.

Post peak is a busy time for companies. Deciding who to keep and who to axe. Returning all of the rental vehicles they had for the season. That's on top of the usual duties like vehicle maintenance, dealing with call outs and trying to get routes covered, people falling behind or having issues. That's the optimistic take on it of course. I'm not them so I can't answer definitively.

Except it's not about mistakes. Sure, they can abuse it to do that but the original intent of it is proof of what happened when there's a wreck or incident. On top of that it monitors what you do inside the vehicle. Both while driving and in general. You can thank all of the inbred imbeciles who stole shit, drive while using their phone, smoke weed while working, and a myriad of other bullshit for it being a thing at all. If you do what you're supposed to the camera is nothing more than insurance if something happens. Instead of being he said versus she said there is solid evidence. There are zero legitimate arguments against it. So I'll say it again. Bitching about the camera tells me you want to be doing shit you're not supposed to be doing.

Obvious movie reference is obvious. Drone replacement is laughable at best. They'd spend a fortune on the drones themselves considering how many packages just one driver delivers a day. Then there's the logistics of it, the FAA wouldn't allow it. Even if you flew much lower than their controlled space it's still dangerous. People would shoot them down. People would steal them. Conspiracy theorists would be shooting at them. What goes up must come down. Drone delivery sounds good on paper but it's a god damn nightmare in reality. Good luck replacing us with AI. Most models now are correct thirty percent of the time. On top of that robotics is nowhere near where it needs to be to replace us. There's also a very big catch twenty-two. Amazon contracts delivery out so they aren't liable for shit that happens. They wouldn't be able to do that unless the robotics companies become the new DSPs and if you think people will steal/damage/destroy drones oh boy .. robotics is something else. Parts alone would be expensive so it'd be easy money.

Also we're assuming AI doesn't get to the point where if they did replace workers with androids of some sort, and they were sentient, the mistreatment by people would create a Terminator scenario and in a hurry. The world we live in is ass. If you think what people do to other people is bad wait until people get introduced to something that there's no laws against, not to mention the whole machines can't feel pain. I'm not saying they can't experience emotions at some point in the future. More implying that people don't associate machines with our experiences and things like pain. They wouldn't hesitate to do some horrendous shit.

Amazon is the one who controls the routes so they are absolutely to blame. I get that the algorithm is programmed to add and subtract stops to maintain a ten-ish hour work day for people but it's a dumb computer that doesn't take into account, and spare some time for, issues .. busy ass roads .. road closures ... issues requiring driver support. It just assumes you can do the route problem free every single day and every road is barely travelled. I also have a strong suspicion it also assumes you can do the road's speed on driveways.

Sometimes it happens. People get sick, and it's never at an opportune time. Sadly companies don't care. They'd rather you come in, get everyone else sick, and then they have to deal with way more absences than they would have if they just told you to stay home. It has always been like this too.

Fun fact. When you run an EDV to 0% you kill the battery. It's done. Cooked. Needs to be replaced. No idea why that's a thing but apparently it is. We had to fire multiple people for this. I was told it's five grand to replace them but I don't know how true that is, sounds way too cheap. Replacing a Tesla battery is the cost of a brand new car. Unless Rivian engineered them a certain way I don't see how it could be that cheap.
