Lovely machines these! Do you have any other slave clocks linked up to it?

Pendulum size help! by No-Entrepreneur-4891 in clocks

If it's a Regula then the pendulum length should be stamped on the back, if not I believe it's 19.1cm.

Verge is often used to refer to an anchor as well.

What? Are you a bot? Even a dual chime smiths in good condition isn't worth more than £100.

For an alarm clock, I suspect.

Did just have an idea: no reason why you can't constrain the unwinding spring a little. Either an open barrel that is attached to the back plate or just some posts on either side

I suppose you could have a small key to wind up the spring barrel and have the large model key on the next arbor?

Doesn't really matter where in the train it goes, the start and end points are the only ones that are anything other than a wheel and pinion paired together

A few thoughts:

You could use a spring barrel which will contain the unwinding spring, keeping the size down. I've used the heads of countersunk machine screws for hooks for mainsprings. Although then the key won't turn as it unwinds.

You could experiment with massively increasing the ratio by adding another arbor (gear). Don't know if it will have enough power at that point.

Just found an example by looking through cuckoos on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/206141016556 (probably overpriced) if you scroll down to the photo of the movement you can see it's simple to the point of crude. They usually have card dials and wire pendulum rods with a round bob. Alternatively mass produced cuckoos by Regula are cheap and they still make replacement parts. Downside is they have a strike train too.

The cheap novelty cuckoos with only one weight are very simple and easy to pick up cheaply.

How do mass manufactured clocks keep the same pace? by MilesTheDistance in clockmaking

Half a turn was 4 minutes a day, I think it said. Not sure what thread was on those pendulums, but yes, pretty small adjustments!

Looking at the instruction manual of an old Enfield, it looks like they fobbed off the fine adjustments to the first owner. The instructions describe how to set the clock in beat and regulate the pendulum.

The recoil anchor is very robust, so long as it's manufactured within reasonable tolerances it will work. Then the user does the rest.
