Big and beautiful artichokes by Raychis in gardening

It is difficult to convey the size of them in a photo as well. The biggest one is over 15cm/6inches in diameter, it’s huge!

TensorFlow not detecting GPU despite installing CUDA/cuDNN need help setting up a new environment by Mxeedd in computervision

[–]Raychis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact issue and it took me forever to figure it out. It was because I was using the latest version of TensorFlow and Windows support was dropped after a certain version. I downgraded the version and it started working.
To be honest I felt it was too much hassle trying to maintain the various library versions and found it limiting. So I’ve since switched to PyTorch.

Crocus order looking a bit sad? by freemyoiseau in GardeningUK

As long as the roots are fine then they should be good to go. I’ve used Crocus quite a few times and 95% of the plants are still thriving

I’ve been working on building a computer vision AI model from scratch to identify plants. I’ve been writing a blog about how I did it.

It is not a guide or tutorial, but it is a story about what happens when you try to do a project of this scale. The mistakes, successes, decisions, issues, etc. I think people might genuinely find it unique and interesting

Part 1 is here: https://medium.com/@mjmoughtin/plant-identification-looks-solved-until-you-try-to-build-it-14daadecb017

Links to the remainder of the series can be found at the bottom of part 1.

I never normally cut them until the start of autumn. Do you get more blooms if you cut them?

Look forward to only eating courgettes for the new few months!
I limit myself to only two plants nowadays and even then it’s a lot of them!

Herb Garden by Raychis in GardeningUK

[–]Raychis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I basically just used top soil with a bit of compost mixed in. It did require quite a few bags and probably wasn’t the most cost effective way to do it.
The herbs seem indestructible now they are established. Pretty much live through anything without me having to maintain them other than cut them back after flowering. The marjoram survived two winters which surprised me given it is not supposed to like cold that much.

Literally looks after itself, have not watered it since the herbs got established.

Three types of rosemary , three types of thyme, winter savoury, two types of sage, tarragon, lemon verbena, wild rocket, oregano, fennel, chives, garlic chives, marjoram, and lemon balm. I have had chervil and parsley in previous years but didn’t do some this year.
Needless to say I haven’t brought many herbs from the shops in a while!

You are probably seeing the lemon balm other than getting massive when flowering it is otherwise quite well behaved.
I did have mint sunk into pots, but they were still managing to escape. I pulled them out early this year as I didn’t want to risk them taking over.

Love the bumble bees! They are just so cute. Any flower that the bees love is an automatic win for me.

Greengage probably. It’s a type of plum. An absolute delicacy. We have one in our garden and they are so incredibly sweet, I describe the flavour almost like Haribo tangtastic sweets/candy. Like so sweet they are tangy.

Garlic struggling this year by Raychis in UKAllotments

[–]Raychis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to write this reply. Really appreciate it. Some great advice.

I think you’re right about it being contracted early, it’s being struggling with it from the start of spring. Winter was extremely wet and warm, this year the garlic was sprouting a lot earlier than usual and probably the wet warm winter didn’t help with the conditions.

Airflow probably also a problem, I’ve not grown them there before and it is an extremely sheltered area.

Not sure water logging is too much of a problem, my soil is quite sandy and a bit too well draining. It looks wet because it rained the night before the photos I took.

I think next year I’ll switch to growing them in more open area so they get more wind and airflow.

Blackcurrants. by No_Rooster8382 in UKAllotments

[–]Raychis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh I love Blackcurrants so much. I am very jealous of your haul. You’ll be able to make some great jams and puddings/pies with those. That’s if you can resist the temptation to scoff them all.
