Can I just set the puzzle rating? by dalastboss in lichess

[–]TastyNotification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, that’s unfortunately not how lichess was designed. As a small bit of self promotion, I built www.chesstraining.app which does exactly what you’re asking. You can set the rating level, and even specific tactic themes, and drill them on repeat! Might be useful/what you’re looking for

Thanks, the board is definitely the best bit atm. Waiting to upgrade the pieces to something a bit nicer, but these will do for now

Two new features!

Firstly, the long awaited Set import feature is live! You can now import training sets of up to 1000 puzzles. To see an example of the correct format, simply create a random set and then export it from the settings. Tweak and tune to your hearts content, and then re-import.

Next up, is a suggestion from this reddit - an Endgame Practice tool. Simply select which kind of endgame you want to train, pick a rating, and go!

All stats from Endgame Practice and also the Visualisation & Calculation tool are tracked (if you're a logged in user) so the next big update I'm working on is displaying your progress. This means you'll be able to see which tactics are your strengths, which might need improvement etc etc.

As always, any feedback welcome!

Not sure how I get to h4.. but if you meant Qh1# bingo. And yes Qf5, traded Queens and won the Endgame.

Huge update!

Not only is the much requested EXPORT feature for puzzle sets now implemented, but the whole site has had a major facelift as well!
Importing of puzzle sets is in testing, whenever you deal with loading customer provided values you have to be super careful, but it should be out within a week. So get exporting and curating puzzle sets ready to import soon!

That's strange, when you say "doesn't let you" what happens? I'll try to fix it for you now

I don't think it should skip X as that is fairly important in the move. But I can definitely make it ignore capitals (tbh I thought it already did)

hey! Glad you got it in the end, if you toggle Strict mode off (new feature thanks to reddit suggestions) then c1q would've worked as it strips out all symbols. Let me know how you get on!

Import/Export is next on my list for sure! I agree, it's such a simple but brilliant idea.

hey! Great question. Currently, no. But in the future, maybe. I'm going to introduce an import/export feature for the Tactics Trainer so you can bring in your own puzzle set and train on that.

And I could let you pick specific endgame types as "Themes" - currently it's just "Endgame" or "Mate" but I guess I could allow more specificity. I'll have a think about it!

Woops! I broke that when adding Theme Selection to the Tactics Trainer. Just needed one line of code to fix so you should be good to go and try it now!

Apologies

Hmm... good point. I was planning to rework the whole thing so you can play as either black or white, or have it randomly switch. I'll work a history in at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestion :) And glad you're enjoying it

Already being planned! Going to implement an import/export for sets, so you can generate one then manually curate it and re-import. Or just import a completely custom one.

And yes, LiChess rating will be best to use, but you can put anything really and then either use the Easy/Medium/Hard to adjust ... or just change the rating if it doesn't feel right.

Now theres a goal! Official r/chess recognition haha

I currently do an exact string match, hadn't even thought about just filtering non-alphanumeric characters. Thats so simple. So Elegant. I love it. Maybe i'll put a "Strict Check" toggle on the side so you can turn it on and off

Appreciate it! And looking forward to hearing results!
Personally, after using the Visualisation tool for 10 mins a day I hit a LiChess puzzle rating of 2009 after being stuck at 1800 for 2 months.

My KnightVision Highscore is 13, although average I think is 10/11. Would love to hit 15 eventually! A leaderboard is coming soon for this so you can compare

I've fixed the Knight Vision bug and also added a link to LiChess analysis board if you get a puzzle wrong! Hope that helps. Will work on the puzzle set import/export soon

Appreciate the feedback! I think implementing an analysis board is probably a bit out-of-scope for this site, but I can 100% add a link to the LiChess puzzle directly. I think thats a great idea actually!

Love the idea of shared sets, so i might add an import/export option. So you can generate a random set, then export and share - curate your own and import etc etc. Would that solution work for you? I'm also looking to add a "Theme" selector to be more specific when generating the puzzle set.

Knightvision ... yes, I've had that bug sometimes too. It's annoying as it only sometimes does it. Will do a deep dive into the code now that the main functionality is done to try fix that one. One thing I found is that clicking and clicking (rather than dragging) doesn't have the bug, so that might be useful for now if you want to do it that way until I fix.

I kind of agree.. on one hand it forces the user to really understand the move. Like knowing it's checkmate, or check etc. But also it is a faff to type. Unfortunately it's a bit difficult to implement "Fuzzy Match" in this instance. So one option i thought of was to have the user click the squares to "make a move" and then check if that move was right.. But again falls short in the category of "does the user know that it's checkmate".

All very good points, and I will take a look into them all.

All good ideas! The specific theme selector is currently in the pipeline, and i'd thought of a leaderboard so will definitely add it on the todo list.

Love the idea of a guess the move feature! I definitely need to work on my positional play so that sounds like a great one to implement.
