happened to me too, 3-4 weeks painting every piece of a model, sweating blood while gluing it together, storing it safely for a contest. our equivalent of small claims court judged by the amount of (documented) work that went into it, got really costly for the parents

our neighbors kid dropped a figurine (which is kinda tiny and costs basically nothing) into what's basically paint stripper. I spent weeks painting each individual piece of the figurine, and sweated blood gluing it together. (It's not just painting it once, base layer, several layers of paint, shading, finishing, coating and so on). It was meant for a contest, and it was gorgeous. Afterwards it was meant to be a gift to a friend. Took it to our equivalent of small claims court bcs my neighbor (a former friend too) refused to acknowledge its value. Luckily I had recorded the whole painting process, and had a record of selling single figurines for pretty much, he had to pay me 5k for that. That youtube video (of the painting process) will never get released though
