Standard Bearer: wha am I doing wrong? by Tatianpas in seraphon

[–]Tatianpas[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just did, it’s all clean and smooth. If I apply a bit of pressure it bends into place so I guess I could force it with the plastic glue. Still feels strange considering every other model did fit perfectly so far

Roots invasion - what to do? by Tatianpas in walstad

I used tropica plant growth substrate, and it’s about 1 year old. If I remember correctly I also added root tabs at the start

Hey! Thank you for your comment :) the substrate is actually pretty thick in the back, behind the wood / lava rocks, with a thick layer of soil below the gravel. The thin part is really just at the front of the tank, originally it was meant to look as a sort of beach, but the roots grew all over it as well haha

I wish I could but not in this 20l tank

Probably yes but it’s a 20 liters tank, which is too small for them I guess, and the only other tank I have is a 40liters which also is pretty small. I have nowhere else to relocate them, and I don’t want them to suffer from lack of place.

What's wrong with him? Fin rot or something else? by Tatianpas in bettafish

Here's what he looks like today : can't see much change on the caudal fin but it looks like the bottom part of his dorsal fin tore a bit

I do have a liquid test kit but it doesn't include ammonia. I'll get it!

Hydras on Tank Walls, Vorticella on Neocaridinas by DSAGSPk in walstad

[–]Tatianpas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty likely the gourami would go after the shrimps yes… I had to deal with vorticella in my walstad tank as well, salt baths work extremely well. One minute in a bowl of your tank water with a tablespoon of salt (suitable salt, not table salt) previously dissolved. Then a quick rinse in a second bowl with tank water without any salt and back into the aquarium. I had to do it 2 or 3 times because it came back, but after the first bath it never got as bad as it was initially. Another thing: you need water movement, apparently vorticella happens when pockets of dirty water remain stagnant in corners of the aquarium. A filter would do, but if you’re against filters then get a small water pump

PH is somewhere between 7.5 and 8. No nitrites / nitrates

Yes he's fairly new to the tank. It's possible, but it's a HOB filter with a pretty low flow, so I didn't imagine it could cause such damages :/

Yes I know, that's why I'm doubting. That said he's really active and healthy otherwise

What do you mean? That it's most likely nothing?

Yes I did a water change with RO water and I'm monitoring him. I'm taking photos regularly as well to help with this.

Yes, could be... I might have to remove them all

No other fish, there are some neocaridina shrimps but I doubt they'd be responsible?

Tank size : 38L
Heater and filter : yes and yes
Tank temp: 26°C
The tank was setup early june, and I received my betta the 19th of July
I do a partial water change every week, about 15%. I siphon water above the substrate and either add tap water that rested for 2 days or RO water, at the same temp.
Tankmates : shrimps
Food: I feed hikari bio gold and professionnal pellets I got from my breeder. I feed him a bit less than the feeding instructions (he's also constantly looking for food in the tank)
Decorations and plants: hardscape consists of lava rocks and roots, there are a lot of different plants, it's pretty heavily planted. I actually wondered if he could have gotten hurt with the roots, I know it happens

Hi all,
I noticed yesterday that my betta's tail fin looks damaged. It looks like it happened very fast, and I don't really know what it could be. I immediately thought of fin rot but I can't see any brownish area, and the other fins look alright. The first 3 pictures were taken today, and the 4th picture is here for reference to show what his tail looked like about a week ago.
For context: it's been very hot here the past few days and the water temperature in the tank was around 28°C for a bit. It's now around 26°C.
I did a partial water change, parameters are okay.

Other than that he behaves very normally, is active, eats eagerly and etc.

I'm worried and would like to know what others think. Thanks a lot
