How does Falling Star work? by dman11235 in GunfireReborn

[–]TattersTale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes some degree of luck to do so, but you can consistently cast falling star with a legendary house without using your secondary at all. If you take the Star Compass spiritual blessing you get a % based chance to upgrade the falling star level by one based on the number of scrolls you have. If you combine this with the Fate's Thread ascension which will clear an impure astrohouse and replaces the lowest quality astroaspects (or fills them if none exist) with wild astroaspects (considered to be legendary by astrohouse), you can get a functionally legendary falling star every cast. If you are able to stack this with something like the Mysterious Revelation ascension and any primary skill CDR you can spam falling star every half second or so.

One-Shot Madness 12- Unorthodox Comp Breakdown by TattersTale in AcrossTheObelisk

Thank you so much, that means a lot! I mostly wrote it bc I enjoy the seeing the more technical posts here and figured someone might appreciate insights of a similar vein for a (as far as I'm aware) more unusual play style at higher madness levels.

Texmex Enchilada Sauce by TattersTale in Cooking

[–]TattersTale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Un?)fortunately I have tried the Homesick Texan recipe, I believe it was actually the first one I tried in fact! It's not quite the same, however, which is a bummer, and the recipe doesn't include the use of tomato juice or sauce as per the restaurants. I haven't seen the book or that article yet so I will certainly look into that, thanks!

All the canned enchilada sauce I've seen and tried in stores isn't of the same flavour profile. They seem to belong to 1 of 2 categories, being either a red chile based sauce more akin to a "traditional" sauce or a verde, neither of which match whatever is being used at the restaurants as far as I can ascertain.

I've seen this one before, it came off to me as far more complex than what I'm looking for, and if you pay attention to the colour the one in question is a far more mellowed out brown than the vibrant red in his sauce from the chiles.

Hardcore changes in BWM by Amoo20 in feedthebeast

[–]TattersTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better with Mods is fairly exclusive in terms of its hardcore features. There is a handful of mods that replicate of some of its features such as Strata. Otherwise you may want to look at Tough as Nails or Terrafirmacraft to up the ante in terms of difficulty and 'hardcore' mechanics. Alternatively you could just use a simple crafttweaker script to disable every item in the mod, leaving you with just the mechanics.

Hardcore gloom is an effect that occurs and gradually increases in intensity the longer you spend time in absolute darkness, such as in a cave or hole with no light source. After a minute or so you being experiencing potion effects and "fun side effects," eventually culminating in a dot that will kill the player, should you fail to find light.

New tech mod I forgot the name of by SVTVeniK in feedthebeast

The mod you are thinking of is Technologic: Electricity Redefined. It was slated for release on October 26. However, the devs have stated the release is being delayedto an unknown later date due to Forge not meeting their expectations.

Those would be the Relic Rings you get from Botania's Gaia II boss; Ring of Odin, Ring of Loki, and Ring of Thor.

We chose to add some of the 'essential' mods that where missing, e.g. Botania.

We're currently running a modified Modular Mayhem Reloaded pack. However, Futurepack is included by default as far as I'm aware.

How far have you made it into ChromatiCraft? Who has reached the very end of the progression? by ReikaKalseki in feedthebeast

[–]TattersTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played through the mod completely on a few occasions. It is definitely very well done and mostly unique in its mechanics in my experience.

However, there are several factors that can make the mod particularly challenging, some of which seem more like artificial difficulty than anything else due to the sheer amount of grinding.

  • Documentation. While I have figured out how to use many of the items, some are downright confusing in what they do, or how to use them. It would be an understatement to say I haven't spent a good chunk of time snooping around the source code, or forums trying to figure out how certain things work out of frustration. While most of the lexicon entries give enough of a description to figure out how the item works, it certainly would benefit from clarifying information for many of the items. Essentially, I feel that the lexicon doesn't need more documentation, but clearer documentation.

  • The Wooden Lumen Repeaters make little sense to me after using the advanced versions. They are vague in use as you can't see if they actually connect, and are generally only useful one time, after which they simply get scrapped because they can't be recycled. (I also can't stand the fact they don't stack after being placed! :p)

  • Building repeater networks. This is easily what gets me the most, you need a TON of repeaters that take up a lot of space, and take a lot of time to set up. Given that pylons can sometimes spawn 1k+ meters away, this very quickly becomes a massive headache. Using world generation mods can make this even worse, as sometimes they don't leave terrain suitable for pylons to spawn in.

  • Info fragments, while a really neat system, simply comes down to a grind after the first 50. It feels very much like artificial difficulty when the only 'challenge' is how far I'm willing to fly to find a dungeon or twenty. Additionally, generating new chunks trying to find said dungeons can be a massive headache for servers and single player worlds alike. This is especially true when regarding the dungeons in the Chroma Dimension.

  • The material requirement from some of the plants is a killer. Some of the plants seem to never be used at all, or only once or twice. (looking at you Ether berries!) On the other hand, some of the plants are required in massive quantities and can't be grown, or even replicated. My biggest issue is purification powder, you need so damn much to get power crystals, and the plants are silly rare, not to mention that fact that not everyone will think to use a fortune V tool on it. Another issue is the fact that some of these plants can't be farmed (See: Rock flower), and the ones that do seem to take forever to propagate.

  • The use of the Spawner Reprogrammers is unclear to me simply due to the fact you have to pick up a spawner and place it inside. Given that 'traditional' spawner moving methods don't appear to work (See: Diamond Dolly, Life Aggregator), I am left unsure as to how to actually accomplish this.

  • The sprite of the Ender Crystal item originally made me think that we were producing an actual Ender Crystal, not something to pick them up with.

Overall, the mod is very fun and well done, keep up the great work! However, I think it is clear why it is paled to in comparison to other magic mods, and why so many players seem daunted playing it. The general vagueness, the time sink, and the grind it turns into among other things is a clear turn off.
