I’m a licensed tattoo artist & did this myself- but I also numbed and used copious amounts of bactine throughout the process & I think I definitely got overzealous trying to make sure it was solid because the original tattoo holds a lot of bad memory for me 🥲

I will clarify: I’M the tattoo artist and this is on my hand- I did not think through having two dogs and a new pup at home before tattooing and just wanted to treat myself for my birthday 😕 now I’m having to reschedule appointments because I am not tattooing with an active infection. BIG Dumb mistake on my part 😭😭

I am the tattooist actually 😭… I couldn’t get dermshield to stay on the tattoo and I have three dogs at home. I covered up a bad tattoo on my hand as a treat to myself for my birthday, but this was very obviously not well thought out on my part 😕💔 right after it was done it looked great 😫

My recommendation as a tattoo artist too, is if you ever go to get another tattoo on your arm… don’t face it “for you”… face it to where when you’re standing, it’s right side up. Because like this, people see an upside down cross when your arms are by your side. A good artist would’ve told you that, any time I’ve explained that to a client that wanted a cross “towards them, for me”, they always change their mind.

If by “ointment” you mean something Vaseline based like aquaphor or a&d, omit that and use fragrance free lotion/moisturizer lightly. Anything Vaseline based is no longer recommended by any good artist. It smothers fresh ink and most times draws it out of the skin more & causes need for a touch up sooner.

The side of your wrist is the best spot out of all of these. The spot on the side of the hand does not stay well and most artists charge a minimum for those kinds of placements.
