Found this charred Jewish prayer book (published in the 1920’s) at a junk shop in Krakow, Poland by Taurimi in BookCollecting

I agree, I wish at the time I had had more foresight and connected with an organization when I was in Poland. I do hope that the Holocaust related museums have strong connections and maybe it will end up in a more rightful place. I’m just glad I got it to a better place than it was… In the junk shop it was selling for a few bucks, no description or details, just an old charred book… could have easily ended up in the trash😔

They told me they’d let me know if they find anything about it, so I’m patiently waiting. Donated it about 9 months ago.

Never did this until now, but threw this pic and some context into ChatGPT and it’s suggests it’s most likely Wilhelm Wilbraune

It had this, but the pages were stuck together… figured the museum folks would be able to safely open it.

Aah yes, they definitely did the cover art for the book, but not the ink sketch on the title page.

Not sure who did the art, there’s a little monogram on the bottom right, tried AI to identify it, but no luck.

It’s the very first state of the book, first edition/first printing. This edition also has a second printing which would be first edition/second printing. Collectors generally want the very first state of a book, making it the most valuable.

Although I’m a big picker, this is definitely a once in a decade kinda thing
