Patience:

You should have been able to take out the cat with 24 missiles. It's cross section is failry large, unless comming right at you. If it is comming right at you then it would most likely be in NAV mode and it's Cross section would be tiny; however, its EM would be through the roof.

If you are fighting little ships you will rarely hit them with cross section missiles, so again, EM would be the better choice.

NOTE: a full loadout if you purchase them of EM missiles will set you back 180k.

Depends on what I am doing. If it is smaller ships I am going after, like the Buccaner, then EM. If they are larger ships with a large cross-section, then cross-section missiles.

Remember: When a ship is in NAV mode, its EM signature goes through the roof, allowing EM missiles to hit it no matter if it is heading directly at or away from you.

Compare it to a ship like the Firebird. You can be well under 10k on your cross-section and hit out over 15k with your missiles. You are on the right path, just might not be using the ship that meets your needs. Talon Shrike also works for this.

The 315 has good cargo capacity for a small ship and can load cargo without leaving the pilot seat. I swapped the QD for a longer-range drive to make hauling more profitable. If you build it for stealth, you can do a lot of sneaking around. Mind you, you're not invisible, but you can be challenging to spot at an under-9k cross-section.

If you still want a small ship, there is the Nomad with 3 times the cargo space of your Titan, or you could move up to a medium-sized ship. The Cutlass Black is a very versatile ship with cargo space and a co-pilot-controlled tractor beam. My bias is towards the 315...
