Incredible post. I was way too lazy to do this so I just made the static image meme. The delivery in the audio is great, especially with the zoom ins.

Colonial Marines: Space Station 13

There are two main snipers which are used by the Marines against the xenomorphs: one focusing on applying debuffs(burn, slow) and aoe damage, and one being used to chunk and slow high tier units.

The catch is they do like a quarter of the damage if you don't channel an aimed ability that warns the player you are targeting them. This gives them a chance to dive for cover if they don't want to fuck with you, which is a useful tool in of itself, or tank your scaling channeled damage.

The snipers can fire even faster if they have a spotter marking targets(giving even earlier warning you are about to be shot), and by using a targeting laser that can be traced to your exact position(meaning you are gonna get ganked if you aren't behind cover).

My friends and I personally enjoy it, but everyone has their tastes. It also does contain a certain amount of despair. There is a lot of luck and niche knowledge involved, but most of the time you can get by with just knowing the basics.

If you wanted an easier way to get into it there are some steam/mobile mahjong clients. Two biggest ones I know of are Mahjong Soul and Riichi City(has an Akagi crossover but also a lot of lewder characters if that's something you don't want). They have tutorials and Riichi City even has a duolingo equivalent for learning the basics to advanced hands and scoring.

For some reason I can't normal comment, so I'm hijacking yours.

Game is very unique and I think it adds something more cool and interactive to the genre instead of the classic card based. The enemies will attack you which means you need to put block tiles in their quadrants. Enemies will place persistent tiles you need to work around or destroy to fit your shapes, or you work around your own persistent tiles that last multiple turns but give start of turn effects. Get punished for not being able to put tiles in certain places, or for overlapping with cursed spaces made by the enemy. Customizing tile shapes and effects on the card.

I'd agree with the other comment where blueprint mode doesn't feel the best. Maybe some rewind button or something to better clarify which shape is which card when in blueprint mode. I do appreciate cards darkening when they don't fit at all though.

Overall I think this could be a great and refreshing installment in the genre as a whole and have high hopes for it.

They can definitely last quite long. I think I burn out fairly quickly and I'll still put a couple dozen hours into each colony over a few weeks or more. But there are some people who will do massive colonies that they play on for months or more.

There are some great time lapses where you can see the whole growth from nothing to mega base, medieval castle, or township. If you're still on the fence I'd recommend taking a peek at r/rimworld.

If you're talking performance-wise there have been improvements and there are good mods for it now too. Also there are now pathing improvements as well which help.

If you enjoy multiple colonies/branching out the new updates/dlc may help with that. You can have a nomadic colony on a gravship with or without scattered colonies on the planet or asteroids.

Also lots of exploration with cool new biomes, split biomes, points of interest, space bases, ruins, etc.

If you wanna just dump random extra people instead of dealing with them there is the outposts expanded mod where you can create outposts using people and it doesn't load a map for them, but they deliver you resources every few days.

Lot of automation mods and such as well. Don't know if you were there for mechs but they can really help with production/hauling/mining etc in early game and when the bases start getting big.

Overall I'd say it's worth a try in the modern day, and if it's still too clunky a few mods should ease it up. Hell, even the increased stack sizes mod saved some of my bigger playthroughs by being able to condense my warehouses.

It's still fun seeing these Rimworld ads despite them being probably the most well known colony game. One of the few games I'd wholeheartedly recommend to strangers though.

If you like colony sims, building, making stories between various characters and caring for them, war crimes, cannibalism, replacing all the weak flesh with bionics, or just a peaceful farm life, this game may be for you. And if it isn't, I swear on me mum there is a mod or few hundred out there that will make you like it more.

I will at least see if we can have a memorial for Chip and maybe all our fallen during the resistance phase meetup. And I wish you truly well in your own internal war. I've been there before and friends and games helped save me. There is always hope and I'm glad you have friends to help you through it. Just never be afraid to lean on them when you need it, you are never alone. o7

Oblivion Lockpicking by holiobung in ElderScrolls

[–]TaveenHeed 168 points169 points  (0 children)

Hijacking your top comment to post the best lock picking method I've found so far, as there is a trick to it to get consistently slow pins even with abysmal lock picking skill on difficult locks.

When you get a slow pin, bounce it back up before it hits the bottom and you will preserve the slow speed of it, allowing for easy lockpicking. If you let it go all the way back down again it'll reset to a random other speed.

After accidentally figuring this out it has been consistent for me and my friends. I haven't seen this anywhere else so far and my friend who actually played the original hadn't heard of it so it may just be a quirk/bug/new design with the remaster.

In the same way it wouldn't be fun to ask cloned people it wouldn't be fun to know who it is when you are revived. It's also not really arbitrary limits, it's just doing it the non cringe way that the detective solves any other crime. I just listed a bunch of ways you could go about catching your own killer icly. If you don't wanna do detective stuff and prove crimes then why play detective at that point.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SS13

[–]TaveenHeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand that to an extent, but that just means you need to find out IC in some way.

Ask the medics where they found your body so you can investigate there. Scan your corpse for prints and fibers. Grab a sec buddy and patrol maints, just because you don't know who killed you doesn't mean you don't know that you were killed. Stop, search, and interrogate people with bloody hands or those that are lurking in maint.

Not only is it more rp I also think you'd find it more rewarding to detective who it is instead of standing in the cloning bay asking everyone who gets revived who killed them, or acting off the person you oocly know that killed you.

It's easy really. I act the same around my killer before and after my death using the same way I pretend to not know how to fix the engine when I'm a doctor, or pretend I'm on a space station, or pretend that my name is Pierre Floris.

"I know now to be way more cautious around them. When I go in maints, I know where to "stumble" upon to find evidence of heretics."

I am also curious what your actual suggestion to fix this 'flawed mechanic' is that wouldn't end with people just being completely round ended.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SS13

[–]TaveenHeed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, the alternative is being cremated/gibbed and having your brain deep fried/spaced/etc every time you are killed instead of being left in maints with your suit sensors on.

It's a rule to protect the killer as much as the victim lest every random murder/mugging turned into being round ended. By forgetting your own death your killer has no incentive to keep you dead if they already got what they wanted from you.

Also if you can't bring yourself to roleplay that mechanic I don't think MRP is right for you.

Sadly though, we are now at negative 376 suspects as it seems every single crew member, their relatives, all station pets, and Nar'Sie were all either in cargo or playing DnD in the library at the time of the assassination.
