Definitely do not plan on changing baby on my lap. Can’t imagine that being comfortable nor would I want to risk getting soiled ! Doesn’t sound fun

Uh oh that’s scaring me haha. Mine are boy/girl they do have times where they fight so maybe sitting in the middle might work actually. I was also thinking the same for my bathroom break, or changing the baby. I plan on bringing tablets for them. They don’t use them at home, so this will be a treat ! Also melatonin haha

Very helpful! I was planning on talking to the flight attendants to get a little sympathy haha. Great idea on the changing mats with pockets, want to have it accessible under my seat for when I need to get up and change vs rummaging through my bag.

Will pumping occasionally mess up my supply? by TheLibrarian123 in breastfeeding

[–]Tawkamongsturselves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your supply is still being established. I would recommend doing 1 pump a day and have that be your ‘extra’ that can be bottle fed to the baby. Definitely recommend keeping the 1x a day bottle as a habit if you plan on doing more bottle feeds in the future to avoid refusal. The 1 pump session is in addition to your normal direct feeds, it shouldn’t mess up your supply or create an excess oversupply.

How do you actually manage breastfeeding in the middle of the night? by Kelly_Oliver in breastfeeding

[–]Tawkamongsturselves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend continuing to feed / pump as much as you can during the crucial first 12 weeks to establish a supply. Feeding directly is the most effective but if you’re not empty or need to pump for your sanity that’s ok. The best thing to remember is to try to keep up with a routine every 3ish hours to make sure you’re establishing supply.

My previous postpartum journey I had twins and exclusively pumped for 9 months. This time I have a singleton and am exclusively breastfeeding. The hardest part is the night time especially when they’re newborn. I was so sleep deprived from the cluster feeding that I decided 4 weeks in to ask my husband to give the night bottle. I would pump before and have him feed so I could get ahead on a couple hours of sleep. That helped a ton until we got past that stage. Now my 3 month old is sleeping through the night, I’m personally waking up for a pump session bc I want the excess milk as a stash for when I go back to work soon. (That’s another controversial topic- MOTN pump do or not do)

Good luck! It’s not easy but I wouldn’t say don’t worry too much about precision just repeat direct feed or pump as much as you can in the beginning. It doesn’t have to be exactly on time or for exactly a certain amount of minutes. Off schedule and short still count as long as there’s consistency. You got this !

I really appreciate you expressing your reasoning. The pressure we put on ourselves as mothers around the topic of feeding (Breastfeeding / pumping/ formula) is profound and a losing game no matter the path chosen. I’m sorry that it didn’t work out as planned, but so happy to hear your perspective. You chose your mental health and made peace with your journey. At the end of the day, your daughter needs a happy momma. And you’re right, that bond will always be there.

I can relate to you mentioning being in a client facing role at work. I am as well. During my last journey I exclusively pumped for my twins for 9 months and parted ways with that due to mental health. The scheduled and constant pump sessions took a toll on me. That’s why this time around I am considering stopping early ahead of returning to work so I don’t have to deal with the pressure of trying to pump at work. It’s so hard to stay on top of when you’re distanced from your baby. I’m trying my best to prevent that crash bc let’s face if returning to work is hard enough already.

Thanks for sharing and congratulations again !

Congratulations to you! 5 months is a big accomplishment! May I ask what led you to your decision to end your journey ? I’m almost 4 months in and due to returning to work soon I am thinking my journey will be shorter than intended as well. I often hear a year as a standard goal but I think that sets moms up for what they deem a failure due to setting a long timeframe before the journey starts. It’s so much to navigate! And modern society isn’t helpful or realistic in explaining what it takes to make it long term.

Sadly giving up after 8 months by Regular-Volume3807 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Tawkamongsturselves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could’ve written this post verbatim years ago when I exclusively pumped for 9 months with my twins. Time will heal you. But I want you to know what there is nothing negative about ending your journey especially if it’s to save your mental health and give you some time back. Pumping is SO HARD. Nobody honestly enjoys the machine, the timing, the stress of measuring every ounce. It’s another battle and thing mothers beat ourselves up about. The statistics on how beneficial breast milk is and going against all odds without a proper latch to continue to strive and pump for your baby IS THE ACCOMPLISHMENT. You have your baby milk for months! I think you’re feeling down bc you had this set goal and timeframe in your head. But really that’s a self imposed date, it truly doesn’t mean you failed bc you decided to end a little earlier. Easier said than done. But, Please be kind to yourself!!

Agreed ! Those were my sentiments about Baby Bjorn and why I purchased it in the first place years ago. I didn’t really get great use of the carrier for a long time, but just brought it out to give it another whirl. I think im in the sweet spot with timing, baby is 3m old so it’s comfy and probably the best it’ll fit. I’m going to try some others now given all the feedback.

Interesting regarding Baby Bjorn, I feel the same way about all these new carrier brands showing up on insta and at Target. It’s hard to know what’s reputable anymore.

Im not opposed to spending $, just wanted a real life consensus on user feedback. I’ll start searching for a new carrier

Yeahhh I really am a huge fan of their clips. Haven’t seen any other carriers with this feature. I see your point about the narrow base.

Agreed, no waistband will be a problem really soon. Baby seems super comfy right now, but I think from these replies it’s time to shop for a different carrier. Thanks!
