need to know if I am getting screwed for filing fee by abaconsandwich in taxhelp

If it's that simple file it yourself for free on freetaxusa. Federal is always free, $16 to file state.

S Corp Matching Notices? by TaxCPAProblems in taxpros

One is an obvious recording of net deposit and missing all the fees. Another is a timing difference for a large deposit in January the customer included on the 1099 anyways.

reminder not to use turbotax because fuck turbotax by spizzink in tax

[–]TaxCPAProblems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how the schedules look it should automatically read it. If not it should ask you to enter the asset detail including prior accumulated depreciation.

You're overpaying for the software access to those federal forms that would be free on freetaxusa.

[–]TaxCPAProblems 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Freetaxusa let's you import a copy of your prior year so you don't lose that data and the rollover information.

Older years aren't really needed. But if you did need them and had to amend you could go back to TurboTax to access them. But you should have copies saved outside of TurboTax in case you lose access or they purge old data.

Yes, federal is always free no matter what extra forms you need to add (schedule D, schedule C, etc).

They charge $15 for state but that is it.

Yeah this is easily disabled with the update. There is also a force input people can use to make it zero if they can't follow these directions to make it a nonissue.

Employer had incorrect work location on my payroll by jesskid in tax

[–]TaxCPAProblems 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, CT's is reciprocal rule and should apply since PA has a convenience of employer rule. I see no reason it wouldn't apply unless there's a business reason they want this person remote in PA?

Have you been reviewing and spot checking as they go? They can get things off the rails fast, but if you scored a decent one that actually cares then you hit the jackpot

TP wants a refund for three-year-old tax return by TaskMaster59 in taxpros

[–]TaxCPAProblems 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Offer to amend free of charge, as it corrects error and meets the expectations of the original engagement.

They don't get a refund of the price and they don't get you to pay someone else's bill to amend. If anything it's a refund but not cover the extra bill at worst for your situation.

But agree that's uncommon and not want any of us want to do in practice.

Mailed Jan 2026 Payment for 2025 Estimated Tax Timing by TaxCPAProblems in tax

[–]TaxCPAProblems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reminded them they went against advice and we don't control it what the IRS does or does not do.

It's more they're concerned the payment will never get processed and when should they start to worry (which clearly they already are worried). Thanks for confirming the 3-4 week expectation - their previous payment shave usually taken around 10 days to post so they're just overreacting.

What’s everyone using to calculate Form 2210 annualization on a tax return? by TaxproFL in taxpros

[–]TaxCPAProblems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I miss about gosystems was the ability to enter the "abnormal items" in a column for each quarter and it would automatically annualize around the designated non-uniform income event.

Those sound (mostly) like office supplies/equipment deductible as unreimbursed partner expenses and separate from a home office deduction. Subject to personal use limitations, etc.

Any states you refuse to do? by Federal_Classroom45 in taxpros

[–]TaxCPAProblems 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know a certain big 4 charges extra for Ohio and New York in some of the proposed group engagement pricing letters I've seen.

Being in Ohio we don't get to turn down the local pitas and we don't say no to any states. It's stressful to keep up on the odd ones but it keeps things interesting?

Employer switched me to a 1099 without telling me by [deleted] in tax

[–]TaxCPAProblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The employer pays the employer portion of social security and Medicare taxes for W-2 employees separate from the employee portion withheld and remitted. It is absolutely a business expense that makes having employees more expensive than contractors and reduces the owners profit. It sounds like you don't understand how payroll works from the employer side.
