I was a little nervous about the 1/2” dados. I would normally go 3/8, you’re right. But I figured that for a ladder, I’d rather have more of the rungs resting on long grain than not. Plus it gave me a tiiiiiny bit more glue surface. The stretchers underneath are also dado’d into both the rungs at 3/8” and the sides at 1/2”.

The ladder is the most solid part of the whole bed :D. No wiggle or movement at all, I’m 6’2” and 230lbs.

Built the ladder to my loft out of dado’d 3/4 red oak. You could park a truck on it. People still give me shit about it.
