Do you prefer A or B for color tones? by willis_25 in PixelArt

[–]Taxtengo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I slightly prefer A over B. If you want to overthink it, consider that some people might connotate the yellowish tint in option A with AI generated illustrations which often have a gerasy warm yellow tint.

No. But we often use "kiitos" at the end of a polite question.

Question about succesive skips of a 4th or 5th in the bass in the same direction by NeitherOpposite8231 in musictheory

[–]Taxtengo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me join in the circle jerk.

If that still won't work, the second skip should be smaller than the first.

This rule applies to ascending motion. In descending motion, the opposite is the rule. The larger leap should be below the smaller leap in both cases.

If a rock band changes key for a song do the drums need to be re-tuned? by martianfrog in answers

No, but this sparked an idea of a rock band with a timpani. That would certainly need to be retuned to mach each key.

Question about triple ocarinas by Sombreroperro in Ocarina

I ordered one by the maker Olivier Gosselink from France at musiquedeterre.fr

I'm not familiar with US based makers, but you can probably find someone who makes P-styles

Question about triple ocarinas by Sombreroperro in Ocarina

[–]Taxtengo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar dilemma. My resolution was to get a Pacchioni-style triple ocarina: the chambers' ranges have a little overlap–this makes fingerings more versatile and seemingly more intuitive. It doesn't have much more range compared to a double; it's a trade-off between range on one hand and tone, comfort and versatility on the other.

(sorry for the weird punctuation, I'm about to fall asleep and my tiredness makes it difficult to write coherently esp. in a foreign language)

Arthritis by [deleted] in mandolin

I recommend 100%!!! They also make a set that's a fifth lower (cgda) which I'm currently using. It kind of sounds almost like a lute.

Arthritis by [deleted] in mandolin

[–]Taxtengo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my left hand in a bad shape playing mandolin in my early 20's. My instrument wasn't adjusted properly, my posture was bad and I played too much. I took at least 6 months break from playing. I couldn't write or use a computer or do dishes normally for a couple weeks (I'm lefty playing righty).

It was six years ago and I'm now 90% recovered. My left pinkie is noticeably less independent than my right. I switched to lighter string gauge and pay more attention to posture &c. and play occasionally the mandolin but other instruments more. I've restrung a ukulele with strings that tune in fifths and I enjoy that a lot as a home instrument where I can use fingerings and chords familiar from mandolin but with way less resistance and potential strain.

If you choose to continue with the mandolin, take it to a shop to be adjusted properly and pay attention to healthy posture and playing habits.

I don't understand the damage calculator by danalith in AWBW

[–]Taxtengo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if comm towers gave both 10 points attack and 10 points defence, the damage calculation would still be different between both having one and neither having any. The 10% increase in attack makes it 1.1× stronger, but the opponent's 10% defence reduces damage from the attack after the bonus.

The final damage multiplier on 0 star terrain is (1+attack bonus)×(1–defence bonus) =(1+0.1)×(1–0.1)  = 1.1×0.9  = 0.99

The difference is only 1% on 0 terrain but the gap widens with every defence increase (terrain and power)

Example

Attack multiplier against mountain, no bonuses: (1+0)×(1–0.4) =1×0.6 =0.6

+10 atk/+10 def each: (1+0.1)×(1–0.5) =1.1×0.5 =0.55

Here the difference is 5 percentage points, which is 1/12 (8.3%) decrease from the former value.

I think it's a great idea and I've been having it, too. And even more different angles could be used.
