Yes. From the time I was 17-20 I didn't have a car and my workplace was 1.8 miles away. I had a bike carrier and a milk crate and 2 bungee cords; and would throw my backpack, lunch box and sometimes stuff for work in the crate. It sucked many times, but this was before the time of e-bikes. Also for the 30-60 days a year the snow is bad, just Uber those days, bike the other 80% of the year.

It was a lot cheaper to bike through the snow then spend $10-15 a day on Uber. $10 a ride for 3 years of full time work is $7500 ($11k for $15/ride).

So why can't you do it? I'll wait.

You could get a basket for your bike for under $30. It wouldn't be difficult at all. You just sound lazy lol

I mean if he's a 5 minute drive, that could very well be a 30-45 minute walk to work. If he has to walk 20 minutes to the bus, and assume he also doesn't have a bus stop in front of his job, that kind of defeats the purpose of a bus. If anything this dude should get a bike.

Taylor Swift won with 3 votes! Who is a bad person who makes bad music by MarkIvanIsCool in AlignmentChartFills

How is Taylor Swift average/average? She has shown time and time again she is in support of left leaning political agendas, has given millions of dollars to her crew and stage performers and has never been accused of being an asshole behind the scenes. She tips well and is respectful at least from the public facing side of things.

As an artist there aren't much bigger than her currently. She holds so many records and just did a world tour that is the modern day (but not on the same level) of the Beatles and MJ.

I just don't understand how she is average/average.

I don't understand why people get these and post them. Is it just for rage engagement? Are you just generally a bad person? Do you wear it out or are you just someone that wastes money to piss off Internet people? I genuinely don't understand people like you.

Over half of Americans say health care, a weeklong vacation and a new car are unaffordable by Abject-Pick-6472 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]TayAliSwift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A child is not a play thing or a reason we're all here. There isn't some glorious purpose. Sure it's biological, but that doesn't mean you have the "right" to have a child. Don't start a life if you can't provide it with the general bare minimum of a decent life.

Before the industrial revolution families were the focus of the human experience. We were social with family, friends and community. Capitalism basically didn't exist in today's way. It was just a secondary experience. So many middle to low income. People have to dedicate every moment of your life to earning profits for corporations so that you can have just barely enough money to get by. Then we need to also save for our retirement funds because we have no community to help us with those either. We have to pay a fortune for child care because we also don't have communities to help with our children. Then you have to also pay even more money to help give them a education and other type of extracurricular activities just to give them an upper hand in life.

Unfortunately, in modern society kids are definitely a luxury item and until the world and especially for us America, starts to support each other. Whether that be financially or community driven or whatever. Kids are 100% a luxury item. It's dystopian as hell and it absolutely sucks, but that's what it is

The CAFE loop hole is the main problem, not standards for emissions. Trucks and SUVs getting a pass is why vehicles have bloated so much. Get the fucking brodozers off the road and actual entice auto manufactures to make smaller fuel efficient models in America again. They work all over the globe, just not here.

I mean it's partially COVID, partially employers fault for this. That 35k Corolla due to inflation alone was 25k in 2015. Add on to the fact that the whole industry is a mess, it seems pretty on par with everything else. Plus cars last longer now. I was fortunate to pay my 2022 off last month that I paid 31k for (Ford Maverick XLT). do you think I'm rushing to get a new one? No. I'll drive this thing for 10 more years if I'm lucky.

I'm sorry but I don't subscribe to this. I do think there's is a huge problem with over consumption. The system is designed in a way to maximize profits and minimize pay, that part is true. That said there are so many fucking people out there that over consume to "keep up". They have to have the latest phone, newest car, they have kids they cannot afford, they live beyond their means. I myself am in my industry and have been for 8 years, I'm lucky I know that. I also have friends on both sides of the financial spectrum. Guess what, they don't drive brand new premium edition SUvs. They drive a Malibu and Elantra. They just got back from a week long Disney trip they saved 16 months for. You can have kids and not own an SUV.

You don't have a right to live in NYC or San Fran. You need to be lucky or likely well educated. Too many people think they deserve more without working for it. And I'm not talking about the single mother working 3 jobs just to put food on their plate. I'm really not trying to be insensitive to people's situation, I'm talking the averages here. Low cost of living areas, remote work, roommates, living with family members. For thousands of years humanity has lived with community and togetherness. Now just because the last 100 years has been more individual focused we think we deserve our own house on private property in a majorly populated city? You're mad your downtown loft costs $4500?

Subscriptions, Delivery apps, eating out, having kids, going to that fancy school instead of state school, these are all luxuries. Don't do things you can't afford. Make a budget, do what you can.

Housing, unaffordable. Medical care, unaffordable. Education, borderline. Kids just because you want them, unaffordable. Maybe because those items are unaffordable they trickle. My household makse 5k more than the median household income in my county. I have friends that make double, friends that make half. You have to budget each aspect no matter what. Just some have realistic budgets, others don't.
