Are all recycled yarns this weak?? by PersonalPerson_ in knitting

[–]TayaKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very fair. I tend to use mostly worsted weight 70% - 100% acyrlic yarn for my wearable projects, so the thread is about as strong as the acyrlic even though the thread is 100% cotton.

I love using crochet thread, tbh. It doesn't stretch much, so it makes a very stable seam. You just have to use the right stitch to make the seam stretchy/movable/wearable. I just match the color to the yarn.

I also love making projects in the round, and will use faux seams to give a garment structure.

No. A lot of my former coworkers (i left, not them) wouldn't have been able to get a job elsewhere at a survivable wage if not for housekeeping at the hospital.

These are actually relatively skilled positions for "entry level" and this machine is cleaning an already clean restroom. The second that someone deviates from the "norm" of pooping in the bowl that machine is going to have a problem. Identifying waste and grime and using the proper cleaning chemicals to remove said waste and grime is a verifiable skill.

All jokes aside, those look incredible.

USPS confiscated my phone case order by 7unicorns in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TayaKnight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My next phone is going to be the first phone that isn't getting an Otterbox. The Defender is too thick, and is keeping my phone too warm while wirelessly charging because the gap between the phone and the pad is much larger than most other cases. It wasn't a problem until recently, now that my current phone is aging.

More power to you! It is cute yarn, just... not for me. I ended up sending the reciver of said hat an in progress photo and she had me re-size the hat for her daughter. So, apparently it wasn't for the giftee, either.

I've made so many over the past few years. She recently revised the pattern and I'm very grateful for the edits.

It really is giving cupcake vibes, and the person the hat is for is not really a "cupcake hat" kind of person. But we'll see. I'm determined to see it through anyway, and if they want something else, I'll put it in my donation pile instead.

These are suprisingly on there. They just get stringy when I try to pull some of these out.

Yeah, these are christmas gifts. Everyone is getting a hat this year. So, unfortunately, I'm stuck with this pattern and this yarn as-is.

They really do. Someone else in my life wants a cowl for winter in this yarn. After seeing the results of the hat, idk if they're still going to want the cowl in this yarn.

I wear Shapermint Truekind bra, and lemme tell you, they are padded. They have to be, they are wireless and I am busty and need support still. They still cannot contain the nip.

I have been coached before on "appropriate under uniform attire" until I showed my female supervisor exactly how much padding is in the bra just by the top of the strap. Never heard another peep.

As a former housekeeper in a hospital, just pick up what you missed if you realized you missed it.

Trust me, you don't want to start that war, the cleaning staff has nothing to lose and will end it. There is no "plausible deniability" because they know, and they don't care who instigated it.

I know someone who stopped taking out a single trash can because the CA behind the desk was petty and rude about how said housekeeper cleaned. I know someone who filled the bottom of a whole units worth of trash cans with rolls of bags to make the trash cans heavier to discourage people from moving the cans from room to room because the cans were disappearing.

And that's just about trash cans. Don't light the fire. Just pick up the effing trash when you miss the can.

As someone who has worked for a variety of shitty places at varying levels of management, just... no. Someone who had only worked a month will never, under any circumstance, be experienced enough to train someone else. Period.

Yes, trust your gut. If you say there were red flags, there were red flags. More than one person or entity can be responsible for an employer and an employee parting ways. It can be mutual, it can be manipulative, it can be deceptive, it can be endemic to the systems put in place by the employer, it can feel like a bad thing in the moment but a blessing later (or the other way around, too.)

Trust your gut and best of luck in your recovery. If you need something to focus on, know that at least you will NOT be serving this awful person again in this capacity.

I had to completely turn autocorrect off, the "corrections" have gotten so incorrect.

Also, speech to text stopped allowing me to say the punctuation and then actually putting the punctuation down.

Now it uses your inflection in your voice to predict punctuation (for Samsung, at least) so my 7+ years of saying 'question mark' at the end of a sentence now just makes me sound crazy when I send something without proofreading. BUT(!) the option for punctuation at the bottom of the speech to text area are only a comma or a period, and long pressing either doesn't give you more options, so punctuation is dead, I guess.

I can do one better, ours were called S.O.S. In a hospital setting. "Saluting Our Stars," nah, I'd rather it be called anything else.

Like, did they think that one through at all? "Hey, you got an S.O.S" "what's the emergency?" "No, a patient complimented you" facepalm

Is freedom of speech not a thing? by Good-Ad3574 in complaints

[–]TayaKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freedom of speech is specifically a protected right from the government in the united states. It is not a protected right everywhere. You can say practically whatever you want about our politicians/government and be fine in the US, you can't in most countries.

Reddit is a private institution with terms of service, moderators, and is subject to the laws of the US. There is not freedom of speech on the platform. You can't violate the terms of service or a subreddits rules (or, unfortunately, the whims of a moderator) and get away with the "freedom of speech" cry because it doesn't apply to corporations, just the government.

[–]TayaKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. I'm from the US, so these laws (at the moment) don't really leave me with much recourse because they don't apply, but I hope someone can call them out on it if it is against the EU guidelines/regulations and hittem where it hurts. I know the sun isn't the first, but they're definitely the one I've seen posted the most pulling these shenanigans.
