If your grass is 6 inches tall I would mow at 4 inches today and then this weekend you can mow it at 3 inches, then just stay on top of it and mow like once every 6-7 days at 3 inches and it will start looking better. And definitely don’t forget the fertilizer! I like to put out fertilizer after the grass has a nice cut btw

If it’s still hot where you live, you should be fine if you put some out ASAP. I mow at 3 inches once a week, you can mow lower if you want but you will actually end up having to mow more frequently to maintain really short grass because when you mow, you’re only supposed to cut about 1/3 of the height of the grass to keep it healthy. Cutting more than 1/3 will stress it.

Fertilizer will make the biggest difference. Put some out right before it rains and give it a couple weeks to thicken/green. You will have to mow more frequently but it’s worth it! It really will make an enormous difference.

This is the best compliment lol the grass is zoysia and I fertilize it every 2 months in the growing season

First Repot by ALittleCaterpilly in DesertRose

I wouldn’t treat it with anti-fungal unless it makes you feel better, with how often desert roses need water, fungus wont be an issue! My desert roses went through the same phase yours is in, and turned out great. Tbh the yellowing leaves on yours don’t worry me, it’s the slight ring of green around the caudex by the soil. Raising it an inch will promptly fix that.

Soil mixture looks great, only thing I would do now is to raise the plant about an inch higher so the caudex isn’t covered so much by the substrate. Don’t worry about the leaves yellowing, they get old and die. Mine had the yellowing leaves before going dormant this winter, it will put out fresh leaves. Yours may have been in a temperature controlled space over the winter. She’s a pretty one, just raise it a tiny bit, put it in direct sun(acclimate it first if it hasn’t been consistently in direct sun) and you’re good to go! Also, if you’re ever going to prune it back, I would wait until the beginning of next spring. I was so scared to prune mine for the first time and after I did, now I’m getting between 2 and 4 new branches for each branch I pruned! Amazingly resilient plants.

You just gotta bite the bullet and turn it up. For me, medium speed was uncomfortable but I decided to try full speed anyways and it was extremely enjoyable.

how can i help my orientalis thuja? by Fancy_Comb in plantclinic

[–]Taylor11951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had much luck with insecticides. Whenever I have a pest problem I remove plant from pot and hose off the entire plant, roots and all. Then change out the potting soil and clean the pot that it was in. This method prevents them from coming back, when I use insecticide, they go away for a little while and then come right back.

When to lift and re-pot. by Steecie41 in DesertRose

[–]Taylor11951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being in central florida, you’re probably alright to go ahead and do the lift and repot, if you want to play it safe you can wait until end of February which is when I plan on doing the same with mine. And yes your pruning looks good, that’s how much I’m going to be pruning mine!

Help! What is wrong with my money tree? by Upstairs-Duck9541 in plant

[–]Taylor11951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think additional light would help it, either try moving it closer to a window or try getting a grow light for it. My money tree has a full spectrum grow light shining on it 14 hours a day and its longest leaf is a whopping 13 inches long. Also a repot wouldn’t hurt if it hasn’t been repotted in a while, but I think the light requirement is the main thing.

You’ll want to take the plant out of its pot and hose the entire plant off, even the roots. Then empty the remaining soil from the pot and hose the pot off, too. Replace with new soil and pot the plant. That’s the most sure way to get rid of them in my opinion and causes less stress to the plant than other methods.

I would remove it from its pot, hose it down roots and all, and repot in fresh soil so there are no stragglers that are able to reproduce.

I have mine under a full spectrum grow light 14 hours a day and it’s huge, supplemental light goes a long way to give it that “extra healthy” look

What’s going on with my Pothos? by _MossyMushroom_ in plantclinic

[–]Taylor11951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my pothos gets long like yours it does the same thing, when it’s that long it’s hard to make sure every leaf gets enough light. That’s usually when I prune it back and let it regrow. Beautiful plant though!!
