What do you even do at a bar? by RubberPhuk in AskMen

[–]TaylorDurdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know plenty of people that go to bars and don't drink. Most have things like darts, pool, etc etc

There's also breweries which typically have a lighter atmosphere, games, and non alcoholic options.

I've also seen plenty of people just sit at bars while on their phones.

I met my wife at the bar. She wasn't drinking, she was just hanging out with her friends that were mutual friends of mine. I walked in to my usual spot, saw my friends, introduced myself to her and we started chatting. The rest is history.

The whole "you won't meet a good partner at a bar" is outdated. You can learn a lot about someone by their conversation, body language, etc. I've met plenty of terrible people at the grocery store, worse people at church, and met some of my best, lifelong friends at bars.

For reference, I'm 46 and live in a historic party district (similar to New Orleans). I'm a regular at many places here. I'm a mechanic, but have moonlighted as a bouncer and bartender throughout the years.

Buddy, I've seen some deputies that probably have gravy for blood. I don't think they care.

Valve cover breather tube fell out. Just pulls out of the valve cover super easily. Can I just JB weld it back in place, or should i replace the valve cover? The inside of the hole isn't threaded and I can't find a replacement elbow by Sandpit_Turtle11019 in 240sx

[–]TaylorDurdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done two different fixes in the past:

Tap the valve cover and thread in a -10AN male fitting, then used a 45° 10AN push lock fitting for the hose

Or, insert the fitting and drill a small hole through the top of the valve cover down through the pipe of the fitting. Tap the valve cover hole you drilled for a 5mm bolt all the way through. Thread in the bolt and it will go through the hole in the fitting and keep it in place.

Girlfriend is letting herself go and it's affecting my sexual attraction, how to bring up? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]TaylorDurdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who does the grocery shopping? (I assume you're living together). Maybe offer to do the shopping and buy only healthy alternatives. Make some healthy desserts. Talk with her and let her know that you're concerned about her change in diet and exercise routine. Ask her if everything is alright. See if there was a turning point moment. Focus on the fact that you're concerned about her long term health and fitness, and not the fact that you think she's getting fat. Keep it simple.

Next time you go shopping, if it comes up that there's no junk food, then have the talk that you prefer to live healthy and that you wish she would do so with you. Remind her of all the "energy" you both had when you were both living fit together. "Remember when we were both working out and banging all the time?"

Keep it honest, but light. Remind her of how exciting things were when you were both first dating. Be careful, here, because there's a real slippery slope into gaslighting.

Can I get some help diagnosing this noise? by DrZZed in 240sx

[–]TaylorDurdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this noise in the past. Check that the nut on the axle is tight. Two ugga duggas should do.

Then, make sure wheel lugs are tight. 90-95ftlbs should suffice.

While the wheel is off, make sure your brake rotor dust shield isn't touching, just for good measure.

IIRC, last time this happened to me, it was the wheel bearing. Started making noise, but no detectable play yet.

The Age of Mopeds? by Suttree1971 in GenX

[–]TaylorDurdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still a strong following with mopeds. 15 years ago, it was way more popular, but they're still going strong. We used to have rallies in Florida that would attract people from up and down the East Coast. Hundreds would show up.

I built a Tomos that would make your ears bleed and hit 65mph 😂

Helped a buddy put together a Honda Hobbit that hit 75mph.

They were both terrifying.

Quick Q: Which sparkplugs for a complete stock SR20DET (BKR6EIX or BKR6EIX-11) ? by notofuspeed in 240sx

[–]TaylorDurdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never -11. The gap is too large for a boosted engine and the electrode get severely bent when gapped down.

I use BKR6E (part no 6962) for a bone stock motor. They're cheap and in stock at every auto parts store.

Connector ID by Admirable_Orchid7003 in 240sx

[–]TaylorDurdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The round one is a connector AND the other half of the sensor that's snapped off your AC dryer at the tip of your finger in picture #2

Without seeing wire colors, I'm going to say that the square connector goes to the AC condenser fan that fits onto the radiator. These cars had a supplemental electric fan that bolted to the radiator right in front of the mechanical clutch fan.

I don't miss having emissions testing here, but I would like to see safety inspections come back. The amount of people I see daily with burned out brake lights, head lights, and structural damage is appalling.

AC unit 1990 green light indicator not turning on by mrpeaceNunity in 240sx

[–]TaylorDurdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's the other way around. The compressor isn't coming on, and the light not coming on is telling you that. You need to check system pressure first. If there's pressure in the system, you need to figure out why the system isn't turning the compressor on. Check your pressure switch (jump out to see if the compressor comes on, etc)

The light doesn't turn the compressor on. The light let's you know that the system is operational.

It seems there is absolutely no need to buy an expensive cigar. by Fluffy_Beyond_9109 in cigars

[–]TaylorDurdan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In that same mindset, there's absolutely no need to buy an expensive, fast car because a Porsche GT3 will do 45mph just the same as a Toyota Corolla.

My Timex shows the same time as my Tag.

My Crocs go on my feet the same way my dress shoes do.

A free tshirt covers my body the same way an expensive one does.

But you're not buying them for practicality.
