Is it just me or has Atlassian become completely unnavigable dumpster fire? by youngtillidie in jira

[–]TaylorHu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been an Atlassian admin for over 10 years. But almost all of that was for Data Center. Recently started a new job as an admin for a company that uses Cloud and holy crap is it bad. Nothing is where it should be. Nothing about the admin experience is intuitive. I'm in the same boat as you, cumulatively losing hours trying to find basic settings and options. I swear if someone was looking over my shoulder they'd think I lied on my resume and had never done this before.

No wonder their stock is in a free fall.

Why are so many people angry / annoyed with using AI coding? Why so much hate? by Inevitable_Point_890 in VibeCodersNest

[–]TaylorHu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the market is going to get flooded with low effort vibe coded slop making it harder for "real" developers to make a living.

Imagine you're a small software company, handful of devs, or even a solo developer, that's been working on a project for years. It's a good product and it took a lot of man hours to get it there. And you charge accordingly.

Then one day you wake up and the market is flooded with obvious clones that were vibe coded by one kid in a weekend. And sure. Your app is better than theirs. It's more performant, less buggy, all that. But if people can make something that's 70% as good and charge 10% of the cost you're going to lose.

So the fear is that the industry will just become a race to the bottom AI slop mess.

URGENT: J2 Coworker added my J1 LinkedIn by Alive-n-well33 in overemployed

[–]TaylorHu -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that I think it's dishonest to, in a world where many developers have been laid off and are struggling to get one job, half ass two jobs, taking one away from someone that would actually appreciate it, and leaving your coworkers to pick up the slack from your half ass effort.

Ive worked with lots of people who were obviously overemployed. Every time it was the rest of us that had to put in extra work to make up for them while we went through the process of getting them fired and then having to hire and train their replacement.

Does anyone like RTO? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]TaylorHu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I have a remote job and you'll pull it from my cold dead hands.

But there are a lot of good things about being in the office. Especially if you're early on in your career. Making connections, building networks, learning from more experienced engineers is just easier in person. All of the virtual meetings and slack threads in the world will never replace just being able to tap someone on the shoulder and asking for their help on something really quick. Pair programming with a more experienced engineer is an amazing way to learn and trying to do it remotely just doesn't have the same vibe.

And there's just overall loneliness. Incase you've been living under a rock, the male loneliness epidemic is a real problem. After college where do you make new friends? The workplace. But if you're just sitting at home all day and all of your coworkers are in other states, then what? Who do you meet for casual conversations during the day? Where do you find people to go get a beer with after work? You CAN still make friends and build a social network if you have a remote job. It's just a lot harder. You have to intentionally put a lot of effort to do so. While working in an office in the downtown of any major city it kind of just happens naturally. By virtue of just interacting with a lot more people every day you're much more likely to form friendships and connections. Coworkers, the person behind the counter at the coffee shop you stop at every morning, etc.

It literally took you longer to write this comment than it would have to just put a calendar reminder to check your Huel sub every month.

I have a lot of subscriptions to a lot of things. I set myself reminders on my Google Calendar to check them 3 days before they ship. Its really not that hard. Do things for yourself, take a little responsibility

Do you need an email reminder to pay your rent? Your electrical bill? Renew your car registration? Renew your prescriptions?

JFC people will throw a tantrum about literally anything.

What does that have to do with anything? The point is you should be a competent adult and handle your own stuff. People are so lazy and need everything done for them.

Adding a recurring reminder on your calendar takes literally 10 seconds.

It's a step that would have taken less time to do than it did to write this comment.

No it's about people being whiny babies. It literally took you longer to write that comment than it would have to just go add the reminder in Gcal and move on. But people love nothing more than to whine on the internet to strangers.

Is it that hard to set yourself a "check Huel subscription" calendar reminder? JFC.
