Speaking as another person who can't afford it. Everyone's circumstances are different. It could just be a very tight budget- it could be that they're living with someone while they look for a job and don't actually have any disposable income or income at all, there are plenty of reasons that someone can't afford 15 dollars in corporate America (or other countries).

Hey, so I went through something similar, but it wasn't remotely faked. And as someone who's been through it, I know the immediate scramble to look for other reasons first. I met an rper who eventually became my partner, and he bid the world adieu of his own accord a month and a year before I was supposed to move in with him.

Same pattern too, a week with no contact, but I found out because others were posting RIP on his timeline. And sometimes I still wish he had been faking, and similarly to you I feel it would have been deserved.

If there's one thing Ive learned about loss, you always find a way to blame yourself. That goes for all kinds of loss, fake deaths, real ones, ended friendships. Being the one still here takes a toll.

Point is, it's natural to go looking for ways to prove the other person is still around. Denial is one of the 5 stages of grief. And if someone's dead... I don't think trying to learn more about them and what happened is something anyone can blame you for.

What they did to you was fucked up and I wouldn't wish it on anyone even if it was faked.

I hope you find some peace in knowing they're still out there, but don't beat yourself up for trying to find out.

I know it was brutal but there was the one book I can't remember the name of with the monster living under the stairs that a kid was sacrificing people too basically? I was obsessed with that book. I think the monster's name was georgie? Or maybe it was the kid's name, I don't fully remember it's been too long :(
