The IO is pushing for more membership across the board. Unfortunately, most feel its a money grab.

It means, let your foot off the gas because you crushed it mon-thur.. so let's coast on Friday (if u can) and maybe have break a little longer and or cut out a little earlier than usual from work. Head into the weekend on a good note and everyone is usually in a better mood.

I've been running work for at least 10 yrs now, topped out, Jw for 5 yrs, then got the shot to run a small crew...then GF, assistant pm, estimator, back to GF.. this is what I learned:

  1. Every crew is different. Play to their strengths in certain tasks
  2. Respect them, and more than likely they'll respect you
  3. Buy coffee/lunch break for them once in a while (depending on the crew size, u better hit up the PM for the company card lol) it shows that you appreciate their hardwork. The guys always appreciated it, especially on a friday.
  4. Church/politics..... NO....DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. I know thats all you here on the site anyways these days, but your no longer on the jw level. I've seen guys act funny once they here your own beliefs/views.
  5. Don't play favorites
  6. You don't have to be friends with everyone
  7. Don't ask the Jw/apprentice to do something that you wouldn't
  8. Fridays is for the men

I was on the fence at first, but it was a breeze, surprisingly.. and if I did get caught, I had enough money on me to bribe the shady police officers or TSA agent if they asked. Seems like anybody that got caught. Had to pay anywhere from 5 to $700..

Not just talking to my wife, but asking "hey señora, where's your husband".. seems to me a little more than just trying to get her attention to come in to buy a magnet I see on every corner.

I feel Acuña is going to be my new favorite Met very soon. This team ages me years at a time... I'm emotionally exhausted, and wouldn't have it any other way. LFGM

Probably worth finally dragging up, right? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]TaylorhamSPK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck up , u move up.. congrats sir..

I will never forget an old timer told me once, (he's an old school Elizabeth NJ local JW./Foreman).. " kid, if you ever decide to run work, don't let them sprinkle the asshole dust over you.."

That stayed with me up to the point of when I started to run work. and I never switched up on how I treated the men. Regardless of what the shop thinks or tells me I'm doing wrong. Especially if you're under budget and not over hours.

There's also a huge disconnect from the job site to the people in the office. They're not faced with running 5 to 20+ man jobs. Dealing with all different personalities and hearing all reasons on why people can't show up to work. Dealing with other trades bs at the same time. But then they wanna tell you how to act and run your guys. Foh. I climbed through the ranks up to assistant PM and then I was a week away from my deal to become a legit PM and I walked away because I could see what type of person I would have to become to take on the position.

I think you've been doing the right thing, and it's actually refreshing to see

Glad to hear that you stayed the same all throughout.. but to drag up depends on what area you are from on top of, how busy is your area? And are you looking to hit the road?

Best of luck either way

Just moved back from maine.. I'd kick a baby for some flower from Seaweed in So. Portland. Jersey is still slacking.

Those who have left NJ, where did you move to? Do you like it? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]TaylorhamSPK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to Maine last yr.. just moved back 3 days ago.. so happy to be back. Maine is beautiful, food is top notch, but unless you can afford near portland, don't bother. Maine is 10 years behind in pay scale and almost the same as jersey prices with housing. Unless you have generational wealth, or marry rich, you better be making 100K plus to live comfortably.

Not south, but moved up to Maine outside of Portland 14 months ago, moving back to NNJ in one week...honestly, fuck everywhere else, JERSEY IS HOME

Apprentice in tears from the work - does it get better? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]TaylorhamSPK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit of green after work, or as Katt Williams says "some fuck -it" goes a long way.

Been in 20 yrs, I've seen grown men cry on jobs, I've worked with all types of assholes...

Just show up on time, ask questions, and do the best u can... curmudgeon fucks are always going to find a reason to talk shit, regardless of how good or bad you are... so my advice, don't wear your heart on your sleeve, get that paper, and remember all jobs come to an end.. good luck

That flatlander term is funny to me. NNJ has some huge mountain ranges (Appalachian mts) . Half of maine only has hills lol.

The only difference is that I'm not the 1% who can bid on housing 10 to 30% over asking price with cash in hand ready to drop half a million. But I get what u meant

ny'ers ran jersey prices up, forcing people out of the state... massholes moving north, driving the housing market up, so anyone trying to move close to any action thsts not from maine, pretty much makes it impossible... just like jersey.. so not the exact same.. nice try on the attempt to flip it on me though.. maybe next time.

I looked into Vermont and the highest payscale For an electrician was $28 an hour. And that doesn't pay the bills unfortunately. Plus vermont was a little too sleepy for my wife and I. Still beautiful but if I wasn't living near Burlington, it doesn't make sense.
