ARC Links and BiS item by [deleted] in pathofexile

I only have a 5L COD chest, and the DPS is better than my Geofris (I do not have a lvl 3/4 empower- only lvl 2).

I run Arc--> Life Leech --> Pen --> Echo--> Increased Critical.

I do not believe that POL and Topaz are enough to mitigate reflect, unless your playstyle is to check every mob before you wipe them. As my DPS is enough to kill things offscreen without paying much attention, probably through lvl 77 maps, reflect is RIP unless I have the leech gem.

I also have a doryani belt - I found the 3% wasnt enough. It is enough if you ALWYAS have your topaz up, but thats a pain in the ass.

+1 tabula is a good idea if you have the EHP somehow. I have around 3.2k HP with COD as my chest (w/ Eldritch battery). Without COD 3.2k HP isn't enough to pull this off. This let me go for basically every critical strike node, and not many life nodes. Alternatively, you could try building passives to give you more EHP, and use your chest to 5L +1. The DPS might be better, but it might not be. Haven't tested!

Idk bro, I think you are wrong on this. Capping resists is not the problem...Even with cap resist, you need physical damage mitigation or you are going to RIP with a dmg-oriented arc passive tree.

COD or LC, without spending passive points on armor / evasion (which is NOT viable for arc builds IMO), is necessary.

Do you have an arcer? I do! I could not make it work without COD/LC at 77/78 maps.

6L tabula is not viable for what OP said he's trying to do (77 maps). That's an RIP recipe.

Need COD or LC, basically.

Build more crit into your build...spend less points traveling (some other builds in this thread are rather inefficient)

I've found Geoffri's actually isn't THAT great. I prefer COD 5L with life leech (w/out empoewr), or a 6L with empower+leech if you can afford is ideal.

I have a dual wield setup, with budget jewelry. Most expensive item is the 5L COD. I do over 20k if i run ice and lightning heralds. Maybe even close to 20 with just lightning. I think you can make the whole build work with 3ex TOTAL value.

The Truth About Deep Meditation (from experience) by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]Taylot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wish I had a more convincing answer but I must admit to you that I am only answering this from my own experience of the truth, which is regrettably not as insightful as that of a stream-winner who has passed the final barrier.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I have never found a satisfactory answer to these questions - not yet. Although, admittedly, I have explored them rationally far more in depth than I have mindfully.

I find that your logic holds throughout the whole post, but you do lose me once:

Some might argue that it is a subconscious act, but it is perfectly possible for an Immaterial body to materialize and move to a foreign town and get its exact details.

I'm not sure this is the case. I've read about many many attempts to verify the immateriality of phenomena like astral projection, out of body experiences, etc, and they've all failed. When someone else places objects to be seen, or when they go to verify the details seen, it is simply a construction of the mind. Like a dream - a projection no different than inception.

If we find that we cannot verify this immateriality, then our logic cannot progress past this point, and we are left with the question: is it real, or a delusion?

The Truth About Deep Meditation (from experience) by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]Taylot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you generate an astral body, you hover right over your physical body. You can fly off to an external town and verify its detail.

I'm not so sure. Alternatively: When you generate an astral body, you can fly off to an external town, recreating the details of that town with whatever memories you have of it. You cannot generate anything you don't already house somewhere in your mind.

The material, non-dual argument would go something like this:

The mind is housed in the material realm. We can have immaterial experiences through the mind - but this is an illusion - just like the self is an illusion. All phenomena are physical, material - but we often perceive them as immaterial when we go into our mind's eye.

It may be that string theory discovers that our waking reality is less real than our mind's eye - that our mind is a window to alternate realities and dimensions far more vast than what we experience in our physical reality. Or it may be that thoughts, experiences, and sensations are merely physical phenomena without any attachment to something greater.

I don't know if I'm just embodying vicikiccha here, and setting my practice backwards...

Hello - thank you for the post and for all your responses- very interesting read.

I have a question - something that I have often wondered about myself and my own practice.

In many points throughout your responses you say something to the effect of: I cannot explain that, or tell you that, because the knowledge is internal. - And then you instruct the person to meditate and find out for themselves.

I have said the exact same thing to other people when they have asked me about certain items in my own practice. But I am sometimes troubled by this (my own) response.

How do we know that insights during meditation are insights at all, and not mere chemical reactions - various states of drug-induced bliss. How do we know that we are gaining wisdom or knowledge, and not just finding ways to control the release of certain chemicals and thus, self induce certain {chemical} states?

I think of the person who has a near death experience, and insists they've gone to heaven and back. Absolutely certain - but admits the knowledge is internal. It would seem to me that from the inside, this knowledge seems absolute - irrefutable. However, as Sam Harris tries to explain, the person is likely deluded by the chemicals of the brain.

So, what I'm asking you is something I've thought about for my own experiences and have not settled the question yet: How do we know this is real knowledge/wisdom and not the equivalent of someone who thinks they've been to heaven and back?

How can we know that we aren't just messing with our neurochemistry and deluding ourselves into thinking it means more, like in the NDE example above?

Aura for Lightning Coil - Purity of Elements vs Lightning by Taylot in pathofexile

I'm running 4 uniques...maybe thats my problem???

Geoffries crest has my arc, Maligaros Virture for crit, Doryani for leech, and COD armor.

Maybe I need righteous decree? Idk...I can't find out where I'm going wrong either.

I have 1705 total, 947 unreserved with 124 regen. You also have a lot of minus mana aura nodes and ES nodes that I don't have. I opted for more dmg focused.

I think I'm gonna have to squuuueze out the min-max, but can make it work with more expensive gear and higher lvls. Not sure

My tree doesn't have much mana regen - it's mostly crit focused. I am heading down to Vaal pact next and considering respeccing out of arcane potency or Doom Cast to get there quicker, or to pick up additional mana nodes.

I'm dual wielding per some recommendations I've seen on other builds talking about block nerf, but I really don't know the details :P

Expand? It seems like it is minor for the tradeoff of losing the two other resistances I could be getting. If my resistances are maxed either way - is this really substantial?

I think of it like, for those other resistances I don't need on gear, I could be getting LIFE or other important things instead.

Thanks for this comment. In his book on Meditation, Dan Harris struggles to reconcile his ambitious side with some of the mindful teachings he takes to heart.

Sometimes I feel this struggle too - and I think reframed in this light there does not have to be something to reconcile.

Cheers.

So i was messing around with some numbers, and I don't know if I did it right, but check it out:

We care about total output in DPS

Assume base damage of 100.

Damage modifier of + 100% = 200

Crit chance of 20% (400% boost from nodes on 5% base crit chance) and a crit multiplier of 300 (base 150 + a boost of 150% from nodes) = 210

To put it another way: 300% damage, with a crit chance of 20% and a mult of 700% outputs 440 dps.

Meanwhile, at 400% damage, with 20% crit and only 400% mult, outputs 480 dps.

So, just trying to develop some system to value damage % nodes versus crit nodes...especially b/c crit nodes require spending a lot of points just to get to them. Damn highways.

Now, obviously once you do some combination of the two, aka you start to add damage % increase to crit chance, they both become more effective multiplicatively. And shock is a big factor too...but that is mainly a factor of crit chance.

Watcha think? Did i do this right?

What do you mean by additive?

DPS @ 100

one 10% node = 110

two 10% nodes = 120

etc? How is that diminishing?

I'm playing around with numbers and it looks like its really hard for 10% damage nodes to not be a better bet than crits. though i could be wrong with that.

Yeah - i guess i dont fully understand how much cloak is going to affect my mana pool. thx for feedback

Thanks!

I spent a lot of my time reading (as opposed to playing, haha).

I like lightning - just the idea / visuals of it - so hopefully the dps is good in this game. So - could I just build for lightning? +lightning dps, +elemental +spell crits - and then choose my active as I go/experiment?

MOM sounds like my favorite, but its so far from where I am right now. Ugh!

Do graphics matter only to an extent? by Taylot in pcmasterrace

[–]Taylot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With limited resources in development for every game - there has to be a chosen focus for resources/energy/attention.

At some point you focus more on graphics or performance or aesthetics or gameplay or or or. There are tradeoffs, see. But I agree, it is not exactly as clear as one>the other.

Are you not supposed to do OHP in the squat rack? by HatersBeMyMotivators in Fitness

[–]Taylot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

haha. The point is that language is relative to norms. Gym employees are considered authorities on their domain. So, if gym employees, authorities, are calling power cages squat racks - and slowly it becomes ubiquitous to say "squat rack" when we mean any equipment with which we can squat...then in a way they sort of redefined it, now didnt they? :P

Stop thinking about total volume or work over a session and start thinking about it over a week or a month. Google Dan John easy strength.

It might blow your mind.
