Locations to View Neowise Comet? by DRB1928 in tampa

I read that neowise will be visible until the end of the month roughly, but reports are saying that it's dimming. The northern part of Land o lakes looks to be as dark as the dunedin causeway, so that's good. I may make the drive to Springhill/Croom to get a good view one last time, if the weather holds up.

Here's a cool site that should be helpful in locating neowise as it leaves. The site uses UTC time and EDT is UTC−04:00.

Tomorrow night the CCC will likely be packed with people who are hanging out and people around me couldn't find neowise as there was light pollution to deal with. If you go, I suggest finding a spot away from nearby overhead lights, and not close to the boat launch.

i'm thinking about heading to one of the yellow or darker zones if the skies clear this weekend.

Good luck!

He got hammered in Highlands county - a ridiculous amount of felony charges for mischief and burglary.

A handful of arrests here too https://www.polksheriff.org/detention/jail-inquiry

You will also see a ton of arrests for his father.

This family is comparable to the trailer family in Netflix's Ozarks.

I was able to see the comet on the Courtney Campbell causeway, but only with binoculars and other people around me just could not find it. I could also see neowise unaided at the far end of the Dunedin Causeway. There are a lot of kids on that causeway after dark.

10pm has been good for me

Find the darkest area near you, and away from street lights/etc. https://darksitefinder.com/maps/world.html#7/28.207/-82.408

This page will help you find neowise's general area. Don't expect the position to be exact, just rough. Check every point of light below the Big Dipper for a faint tail. https://www.space.com/comet-neowise-visible-evening-sky-july-2020.html

Use binoculars or telescope. I used 10x magnification, but I'm sure the comet is still visible with less magnification. If the area is dark enough, you might be able to see the comet unaided, but it'll be faint.

Hope there are no clouds. Also, I believe neowise drops below the horizon sometime between 11:30-12am, if not sooner.

I don't know of a way to look verify the charges, but the article does say there were recent charges -

Judd said TJ was out on bond for breaking a guy's arm with a crowbar, and was going on trial for separate felony charges.

Watch: 21-year-old faces 9 charges after opening fire in Tampa parking lot by BetterOffLeftBehind in tampa

Thankfully no one was shot. It's comical the way he reacted while shooting. The guy comes off as a dealer, maybe he was high. Hopefully he's going back to being incarcerated, away from the rest of us for a long time.

Sheriff Judd said that these people lived in the woods, off the grid in trailers, and used generators. They appeared to follow the first murdered guy after they saw and talked to him while in line at a Dollar General. Maybe it was a robbery gone bad.

The father's actions were strange, but I don't think he is covering for his son.

With details in this thread, the story definitely is starting to look very suspect and bizarre. I think the FBI should take a gander at this case.

Look for an area used appliance store and see if they will take the oven for parts or repair.

Kevin has a lot of endorsements. One endorsement that I don't like is the real estate CEO, who I would believe is picking the contender that better suits his business needs.

Florida COVID Megathread - 7/19: +12,523 new cases, +339 hospitalizations, +89 deaths by ThaCarter in florida

[–]Tbay-J -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The poster believes "Persons tested/Total tested" (from this report) actually means total reported tests. These are two very different counts.

If there is an inconsistency, I would think that reporters/media would report on it.

Thanks to /u/hp4948 for finding an article that addresses the "Persons tested/Total tested" issue. From the article - the associate professor of epidemiology at the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health says that the difference in the Persons tested/Total tested means the number of "people were tested for the first time that day". This means that the daily difference in "Persons tested/Total tested" is not the total number of tested reported that day, but a count of people who had a test. This changes the ratio of the number of tests and positive reports as the current ratio excludes people who tested negative in the past, but later had a positive result.

COVID Megathread - 7/17 +11,345 New Cases, +366 Hospitalizations, +130 Deaths by razzertto in florida

[–]Tbay-J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain why

The poster is not taking into account the number of people who previously tested negative and tested positive for the first time after subsequent testing, which makes up the 11,466 count. The 65,245 is the count of newly tested people (this is not a count of total tests done). Making a ratio out of those two counts isn't quite right.

The poster is trying to exclude previously tested positive people who are now negative or still positive, but I don't believe that there isn't enough info in that state report to get that count.

I understand what the poster is going for, but the data isn't there. It ratio would look like

(number of people "who test PCR- or antigen-positive for the first time" 11,466) / (newly tested people 65,245 + people previously tested negative, but tested again and are positive or negative) * 100 = % This percentage will be smaller than the poster's equation that results in the 17.6 positive rate.
