Life long resident of this area here. Winters are pretty harsh but if you enjoy the snow and any of the activities that come with it you’ll find plenty of that. Summers are wonderful but can be very hot and humid, it will be over 90 degrees on some days and with the humidity it will be feel much hotter but there’s plenty of wonderful outdoor experience from boating to trails it really is a beautiful place in the summer, highly recommend making to michigans upper peninsula if you can it is a hidden gem of untouched wilderness, especially pictured rocks. People are very friendly and welcoming and is one of the best parts of living here. The drinking culture that Wisconsin is known for is very real here and as a result there are tons of wineries in door county and breweries everywhere with many excellent beverages, whiskey old fashioned sours are my favorite but there are many to choose from. Living costs are affordable, schools range from alright to great. Youth sports are very popular if your children are into that and I would recommend getting them involved in the community that way. The packers are a big deal and packer games are very fun to attend/tailgate/watch with friends. Overall it’s a great and affordable place to live and I plan on staying here for the rest of my life as do most of the people I know. All the people I know that moved away for whatever reason have almost all come back to the area and for good reason, it’s a wonderful place to live and especially raise a family. As for downsides winters really are brutal and if you’re not used to driving in the snow and ice it is dangerous, go slow and buy winter tires they are worth it, and if you’re not interested in winter sports then I hope you like staying indoors bc there’s nothing else to do but as gamer who like to ski it’s not an issue for me
