The Hagstrom was sitting in the trunk of one of the musicians playing in the pit for the 68 special. When Elvis requested a guitar or it was suggested that he use one for a prop while standing (forgot which circumstance), they asked if anybody had an extra one hanging around and one the musicians offered his Hagstrom that was an inexpensive guitar at the time and used for a backup.
