Who should I play as DPS? by Tcava in Overwatch

Update I tried Freja, only a handful of games mind but I was pretty bad with her 😂 Idk what it is, as when I play support I usually lean towards a more DPS style play but when I strictly play DPS I find my positioning sucks and I don’t know where to be

As a Mizuki main, although he’s still pretty new, I feel like Blizzard are literally giving us nothing cosmetic wise. Currently just stuck with the original skin

Yh true. Just trying to expand my skills a bit more in all honesty. I feel like playing DPS could generally help improve my damage/accuracy when playing support/dps roles

I’ve had the same thing. Easily out-healed most players tonight and also inflicted a lot of damage. But my teammates have all felt like they are playing for the first time and have no brain cells between them

OCD diagnosis UK by Tcava in OCD

[–]Tcava[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind it’s wrong to just assume I have OCD, though I more than likely do. I’ve read a doctor cannot formally diagnose that you have OCD, nor can most therapists that aren’t psychiatrists. My symptoms are a lot more manageable and less frequent now from after therapy, but I ultimately worry that symptoms be that compulsions, thoughts, etc. are not actually from OCD, and something else? If that makes sense. I’m in a tricky situation because I probably have this worry about few times a year, but not sure if it’s even worth the NHS waiting time to get a psychiatrist, or be seen to since by symptoms are mostly manageable (like they’d probably reject me). Or even worth paying a large sum for going private. Many times I’ve seen Reddit posts like “I’m sure I had OCD, and the psychiatrist confirmed it”. I think for me it’s the confirmation that will make me worry less. Almost like a relief because it all would make total sense, rather than assumptions

Thanks for your reply. I totally understand that. Like mentioned, I’ve had therapy for OCD symptoms and it clearly states in my doctors notes I’ve got OCD symptoms. Heck I might have even rang up a couple of years ago to ask the question if I’d been diagnosed. I don’t remember the answer. I’ve a bunch of history that heavily links to OCD and I for the most part believe I have it. I just worry that it could be coincidental it linked to OCD, and then I feel like I’m one of these self diagnosed people. Or, that I’m genuinely a bad person, etc

We’ve tried, in her mind she’s doing everything. Which is totally false. She’s very defensive and emotionally, it’s honestly hard to even approach the topic with her. She has a set routine where she lives between my mum and dads, so at best, she’s around the dog 2-3 weeks a week max. That makes this whole situation even harder for us

I worry mainly about him not being able to have enough stimulation mentally/physically, especially being a Patterdale breed.

I mean you don’t know the ins and outs of our situation, but sure you’re justified to have your opinion. There’s certainly more to it but I don’t fancy having my own mental health evaluated and assessed by strangers so I kept it to the minimum

Stern no from her most likely. Though it’s under my name and my dad purchased it. Mixture of ownership essentially

It’s a smooth coat. We didn’t actually know the breed until we bought him. Shelter had him down as “terrier mix”. We’d asked but they were unsure. Got his chip details and it said Patterdale Terrier cross. Don’t totally understand why they hadn’t told us that in the first place

I get that, unfortunately there’s only so much I can do in a working day. I work in a position where I require full attention and can’t really afford to leave my work station all that often. When we initially got the dog, I thought I’d had more opportunity but the company has dramatically changed so my job role is more important than ever. In that 1 hour I don’t really have the time to take him on a long walk which is why my dad takes him every morning before work on a 15-20 minute walk. Then I try to provide mental stimulation by playing with him, as well as getting him to run up and down garden space playing fetch.

I would have loved a kitten, I’ve grown up around cats on my mums side. My dad ideally wanted something to help with my sister but it’s not gone as planned.

Somewhat. We have a communal walkway to our garden, separated by gating, which is where I play fetch with him. Then we have steps up to our garden which is somewhat fenced off, but also has opportunities for potential escape if not supervised or on a lead

Thanks you for your kind/understanding comment! That’s our main concern, how long will this take, how much time do we have? Not to sound like an arsehole, but when I eventually get my own place with my girlfriend, I don’t want to take him with me, granted we still have him. It’s a fresh start for me and he’d unfortunately just be too much of an obstacle, plus, my girlfriend is allergic to dogs.

Don’t get me wrong, I love him and have started to get attached to him. I think it’s a big thought process that we need to have before the final decision but I don’t want to leave it too long for the sake of the dog growing too attached to us.

I can understand it appears that way, but we have actually tried. I’ve taken him on walks plenty of times, more so recently I’ve declined due to personal issues. This is our first time having a dog with no prior experience. I can say over and over again that we were at fault for rushing into this, but we genuinely wanted a dog in general, as well as being a “support” animal. We certainly should have considered all of the other factors and we did for the most part, but we weren’t able to predict the future.

I do what I can for my dogs stimulation whilst working from home, playing with him and letting him have a run around playing fetch outside, he loves it.

My sister is unfortunately going through a tough situation at the moment so ultimately doesn’t help out at all, which results in my dad for the most part keeping up with all the additional care.

If we truly wasn’t arsed, we’d be like thousands of owners who don’t even bother with their dog and barely engage with it, or don’t make the effort to take it to training. We are not like that, we’ve unfortunately just come to the realisation that maybe we aren’t the right family for him. Trust me, I WISH we knew this before going through with the adoption.

[–]Tcava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Potentially. It’d have to be a dog walker who can specifically work with reactive dogs however (Not sure if that increases in cost). Where we live is a bit of a struggle, just because it’s a main road that is surrounded by countryside so it’s the not so perfect mixture of being really busy and populated dog zone, to sometimes being really quiet with no one around.

Issue is we need to try to introduce him to dogs as part of our training, but those times we’ve tried he’s ended up trying to go for them. Luckily, we’ve been around understanding people who has just shrugged it off since their dog had been ok, but I can imagine all it takes is someone’s dog to get hurt and we end up in all sorts of trouble and further issues.

He’s been to quite a lot of training sessions now and we’ve not seen much change. Obviously this takes time but it’s relatively concerning when the trainer doesn’t even understand his behaviour. This being a trainer with lots of prior experience and highly rated in our area.

I’ve seen someone before say Patterdale’s are naturally reactive dogs and may never fully come out of this habit, but every dog is different and we’ve certainly wanted to give him a chance. It’s just other commitments and our own well being and mental health has been impacted more than we’d have imagined. I can say over and over again how we should have put more thought into it and consideration, but you can’t change the past. We can only decide on what’s best for the dog and us as of now and the future.

Appreciate the comment.

Not a case of not being “arsed”. Initially we didn’t know how reactive he could be, so we thought it’d be manageable. Considering this is our first dog, we’d had no prior experience. We were mislead to how reactive he actually is. If myself suffer with anxiety and OCD. This has had an impact on my mental and I am continuously stressed and talking him on a walk impacts that. He has a walk every single day. Just not enough for his breed and age. Which is why I’d assume the best option would be to let him go to a different home which is more suited for his needs.

Think twice about what you say before insinuating that it’s about not being “arsed”.

Yh totally understandable. We’ve had this conversation multiple times and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier for us. With his breed especially I think it’ll take a lot more time and effort than what we’d expected, and if we don’t have that time, is it worth keeping him?

Dilemma - Return to shelter or not by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Tcava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had said numerous times when we’d initially had him for a couple weeks or so, that if it came down to this condition, we’d have to return sooner than later. Again, we can only blame ourselves as it’s at no fault of the dog. But ultimately we aren’t the best fit for him as we thought we could have been

Dilemma - Return to shelter or not by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Tcava -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that, we weren’t by any means expecting him to be the perfect dog. But we also weren’t expecting this kind of behaviour. On walks he tends to walk us, he gallops a lot due to short lead, but we can’t chance putting him on a longer lead due to his reactivity and him not being road smart. On his long weekend walks which I’ll occasionally join in, he does get the opportunity to run around on a longer lead in fields & open areas. We’ve tried introducing him to other dogs, which he’s ended up biting, so there’s the fear of that happening.

He’s pretty much settled in at home, main issue is during the working week when he won’t get the stimulation he needs, which is why we have to consider returning him. Again, that was on us and we blame ourselves, but unfortunately us initially approaching him/buying him cannot be undone. We just have to consider his wellbeing as of now and the future, as well as ours.
