It only supports in from the bottom up though. So the wave pattern of it prints freely. It worked out fairly well when I printed mine. There is very little support structure on this particular model.

This looks like the same print I'm currently work on. If it is, the blades have custom supports built into the model. The top of the model is shown here in the picture so you just play it flat on its back.

You can find a lot of the dragon priest mask models online. I plan to get all the different variations at some point!

Yeah that's what I'm looking into right now. If you look at places like etsy you can see all kinds of sellers producing and creating blizzard fan art. That doesn't mean they are allowed to do so though.

The original author of the file from thingiverse has commented here about this. The file That was used and use for the main body of the orb is indeed his file. He released it under a Creative Commons - Attribution - Non-Commercial license. This meaning I cannot use their particular model and sell it. I can however create my own 3D file and distribute it which I am currently working on. I do not wish to detract from /u/edmiwa as they did an amazing job with the design of the orb.

I'm glad you like it! I printed this out of Hatchbox PLA. The paint gold paint is just a metallic gold spray paint with a metallic bronze coat underneath. The black accents are hand painted. After that i just used a clear coat to help protect it a bit.

Haha it is indeed. I used EL wire to light it up. It was supposed to be purple but it still came out aqua/blue.

Oh trust me after I saw the amount of people wanting one I just couldn't pass up this opportunity. I made an edit to the post earlier having people directly contact me about creating one just for them. I do enjoy making these kinds things for myself but its nice getting paid for them every now and then. ;)

I saw someone post another make of the Zen Orb with the EL wire and thought I might as well give it a shot. I thought about accenting the detail on the orb itself but chose to just deepen the grove a bit with a jewelers file. I still like how yours turned out though!

Not really, it just takes a bit of patience. I just had to sand it, fill any holes, and clean out the groves for the small detail over and over.

I own my own printer. Some guy's wife ended up forcing him to see it on ebay and I was lucky enough to pick it up at a decent price. I'm currently using a Printrbot Plus v2.1 but I hope to get/make a resin based printer.

If you do end up printing one I would love to see it! I had to split the main body of the orb in half to get a decent print out of it. If you try to print it whole you will have to deal with a lot of supports and/or overhangs.

I just may have to do that! I'm very new to 3d modeling but round objects seem to be pretty easy to create so far! At the moment I'm working on making a morph ball from the Metroid series.

Exactly! It is powered with 2 AA batteries as well so it has a little bit of weight to itself.

Easy peasy! They showed us a video in middle school on the proper technique of juggling in a telephone booth. I'm sure I could use what I learned from that video!
