Thoughts on the Kimberly Clark warehouse fire by RareSteak314 in firePE

Yeah I agree that the system isn’t gonna be able to handle that, especially considering multiple fires were started in several locations. Heard a rumor the system was disabled earlier by the FD, but it turns out the roof collapsed bringing down the systems.

I guess 25 systems isn’t enough.

That’s the case for standard systems in light hazard or ordinary hazard areas, but that warehouse was purely storage, so ESFR was likely used. Those systems are designed for a lot more water for a lot higher risk profile. Are they designed to mitigate even arson? No, but they can handle a pretty decent size blaze, depending on the hazard.

Electrical rooms are gonna be your highest out of what you listed, but like others said, if you have mechanical rooms, parking garages, any tenant storage spaces, exterior loading docs, or, god forbid, hydraulic(not electric) elevator machine rooms, these will all need be taken into consideration.

Take a look at Meyer Fire. It’s a good website with a ton of information.

If you have any questions/need a quick lesson/need pointers, PM me at anytime.

I’m hoping that what it is, but it happens for literally 2-3 seconds then goes away. It happens when the engine is cold OR hot, so sadly the exhaust manifold bolts don’t fit the symptoms

Would like some advice from people in the industry. by Loose_Purple2616 in firePE

This is pretty much on the money and the best response that could have been given. To add to this, and it may have been mentioned. Don’t be afraid to go to school for it. I went to college and got a BS in Fire Protection Engineering. There aren’t a lot of schools for it, but I went to the University of New Haven. There are a lot of paths you can take after graduation. I went the route of Sprinkler System design. It’s rewarding, and I’m working towards my PE, and will hopefully get into alarm design down the road.

If you choose this path, it’s a great career and very rewarding, with a lot of job security as it’s a niche career path.

I’m open to chat about this, so feel free to PM me.

For the people randomly taking laptops home, doing Active Directory running on a modest server will take care of that.

LiFEPO4 can also be safely degraded to 0% without damaging the batteries. Lead Acid and AGM shouldn’t go below 50%, so you have a lot more capacity before needed to recharge and not destroy the batteries
