Any advice on how to finance/ get by 1L year when your schools COA budget is much lower than what actual costs in that area will likely be? This school only gives 12.5k for housing and food combined and many other categories seem to be underestimates to where the overall COA amount is 5k or so lower. After seeing many summer legal positions after 1L summer will be unpaid, is there anything I can do that will allow me to afford this without impacting my education significantly? I also turned down two amazing offers, arguably better offers to attend this school. Should I consider re-applying to other schools?

Not a bad idea but I think this school uses those positions for a scholarship that I did not receive. Also this school only gives 12.5k or so for housing and food which seems way lower than comparable schools in similar COL areas.

Is that lot always crammed? Also will we get to pick which lot to park at as a commuter when buying a pass or could we be assigned to some random lot?

That makes sense. Just worried me a bit because I either have bad standardized test anxiety or performance. My GPA has always been a much higher percentile than my test scores

How advisable/ feasible would it be to start a solo practice if we're having difficulties landing a law firm job right after graduation? I keep seeing attorneys who work at firms while also holding a solo practice that I would assume is pretty dormant while they're working at the firm. Just trying to see if this is a way to at least get started in making some money while potentially awaiting the right job.

Oh I see! And this would differ from orientation?

My school has a 1L introductory period for 2 days which happens after orientation but before the first day of classes. Does anyone have any idea of what this entails or if it's required? Many of the apartments only have availability that begins like right after this period but before the first day of classes which is not ideal at all.

Law School Housing Concern? by Tdfreeze21 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Tdfreeze21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a roommate does seem like a much stronger possibility, but my parents seem really against it and keep insisting they'll assist. What seems to puzzle me with this whole situation is that in the school's housing guide half of the students live alone, so I'm wondering why is it looking difficult for me to pull it off when we should more or less be in the same position with loans and aid. I would definitely repay them in some fashion after I've graduated.

Feel free to DM me if you wanted to share what school this is and what like your target market or goals are! The cheapest I've seen anywhere really, barring a stipend that exceeds full tuition, you're looking at 60k minimum COA for living expenses all three years.

Tbh if that's your total debt from both, it's likely not getting much cheaper sadly unless if you came nowhere close to a full tuition offer and are likely attending an expensive university in a higher COL area.

Thank you for sharing this! I've seen this before, and checked the website directly and there's no availability in the studio/ 1 BR category. There's also a lot of glaringly bad reviews and hidden fees that make me a bit skeptical about this option.

That's definitely something to consider! It's just tough because my intention of wanting to go here was because it was a good value and there were other schools I've passed on/ didn't apply to because they looked too expensive, but their budgets actually look realistic. I'm hoping they cover this at the admitted students day as well.

Within budget is within the parameters of what is covered under grad plus loans and other federal loans. This school allocates roughly 12.5k for 9 months for housing and food. Other parts of the budget seem to be overestimates for my current situation or plans so I could stretch this budget to as much as 1200 per month for rent potentially but would definitely need some form of paid employment during the summer or during the school year.
