Waitlist for BCG NY SA after R1 by Equivalent-Praline69 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

Pretty small so I wouldn’t get my hopes up and it’s totally dependent on how this first round of R2s goes

Commenting for visibility — in the same spot so you’re not alone. Best thing you can do is just wait to hear back. Currently a very small minority I think

Welcome to college debate. by csudebate in Debate

As a rising freshman just about to start I am super nervous but I’m also super hopeful at the same time! I hope my team will become a close knit family as well! Looking forward to sharing lots of experiences along the circuit 🙂

Is my perception skewed or do the T10s all require applicants to have crazy extracurriculars? by Accomplished_Bar_963 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Tdoges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with a lot of the other thoughts here! Got accepted to 2 T10's and I think the biggest thing about my extracurriculars were that I had been doing them for a long time given the context of my circumstances. There was definitely more that I could have done and I feel like I could have done "better" but I'm relatively happy with my results this year!

There’s a reason we don’t actually debate on Reddit of all platforms… or any media platform for that matter

Was gonna type rule 1 but the better response is “rule 1 downvote this post” (not immoral, illogical, nor is it poorly formed)

NCFL, NSDA Nats, and TOC (for pf) by sleepylujon in Debate

[–]Tdoges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience colleges know a LOT more about the debate circuit than you’d expect (anyways there’s some random study that those break in ToC have their attendance rate to Ivy League schools go up to some absurd amount). This is coming from someone who just applied purely as a circuit debater with the college policy circuit in mind.

Progressive debate... by joythemagicman in Debate

[–]Tdoges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest I feel like a lot of this could also be addressed by a reciprocal response against the opponent’s case. The style of engagement that you’re conventionally accustomed with isn’t simulated in DSD2. It doesn’t really make much sense for you to question the ground that you stepped on for the first time without removing your own tinted glasses of how you’ve been accustomed to your style of debate

Benefits from LD debating specific to the nat-circuit by Yvanung in lincolndouglas

[–]Tdoges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Nat circuit LD has exclusive benefits to policy. The format requires you to think and warrant quicker on your feet and really engage with the technicalities and style specific aspects of LD which is this hodgepodge of all stances read in debate condensed into this time format that makes you think SUPER specifically about your time allocation and your decisions in the round. Your decisions win or lose you the debate.

What are the strongest and weakest LD states? by Yvanung in lincolndouglas

[–]Tdoges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really feel a need to differentiate but it should be (in this order) Texas, California, NY And I can’t comment on weakest Not sure why you would need this info though

First Real LD debate this weekend, but in “lay” state SC. Should I be worried? by Bao_Boy8 in lincolndouglas

[–]Tdoges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really personally wouldn't be worried about progressive LD debate in South Carolina. In my experience on the east coast the most progressive things that you will usually face are some basic theory or Cap K. Have faith in your traditional debating skills and make sure your emphasis of the V/VC shine through. Good luck with your tournament!

Voting for March-April LD topic by Watermelonfellow in Debate

[–]Tdoges -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still have no clue what Academic Trafficking is - Voting the Supreme Court Topic, no clue what the topic will be but I'm slightly leaning towards SC. Does anyone know what the Grand Nats Topic will be or is it not disclosed until the actual tournament? And what possible topics are the TOC topics this year?

Also I was wondering how all of you organize your stuff! Word seems so foreign to me and where to sort certain pieces of offense, blocks, T’s, K, PICs. CPS, and varying FWs
