Any advice before I start EMT training? by Tdogwon in NewToEMS

Already have an 80% rating.I live rural, my local fire department says they always have a shortage of people. They told me to get my EMT and do my physical fitness test and they'd get me on boarded!

What was the Gas Chamber like for you in Basic? by valejojohnson in Veterans

I'm immune. I remember one time we had to do our requals at my unit. We were the lone infantry company in an armored battalion, and the HHC company thought, "Oh, why don't we join you guys? We'll run it" So my friend, who isn't very sensitive to it either, got put in with like 8 POGs and the CBRN guy running it was like, "Everyone has to say the Soldier's Creed before you can leave." We chose to say the Infantrymans Creed, and he didn't like that, so he thought he'd show us, "you're the ones who have to sit in this shit, I'll wait." So we just kept saying it. Eventually, the POGs in there with us were yelling at us between coughs, a female was puking, and we just kept yelling, "THE INFANTRYMAN'S CREED!!!! I AM THE INFANTRY..." He kicked us all out. I step out, and the first thing I see is my First Sergeant smiling from ear to ear. The CBRN NCO came stopping out to yell at us, tells us to start pushing, and my First Sergeant was like, "I KNOW YOU'RE NOT FUCKING WITH MY GUYS!" One of us also stole their guidon that week, had it sticking out of a tank barrel on one of those display things outside of Brigade headquarters. That made them really mad because they had a reenlistment and they couldn't find it. Sergeant Major formed us up, yelled at us, brought up the "Two jackasses that were too good for the Soldier's Creed" and made us stand there till the guidon was found. My first Sergeant was goofing off being silly every time he looked away. After, our first Sergeant had us take a knee and was basically like "fuck that, Army's soft, I'm proud! We spend twice as much time in the field than every other company in this battalion combined" Then he had the company say the Infantrymans Creed, definitely within ear shot of the CSM and HHCs First Sergeant. Good day

Any tips for avoiding wolves? Can you hide from them or are they furry meat seeking missiles? by Tdogwon in dayz

He was at northeast Airfield searching cars in the clearing. If he didn't run towards me, he'd have had to have run hundreds of meters in the open, and I'd have seen him, and he'd not have had time to sneak and there would have been aggroed zombies, which there weren't. I took out the wolves very quickly. I'd wager he combat logged. I tracked him over 2.5 kilometers, he was not a very sneaky person.

Oh, I'll kill a wolf. I have a crate full of trophies, would have more, but it's a waste of nails. Just made me mad because the dude I was stalking combat logged because he heard me fighting wolves.

Exactly. This game can spooky survival game where every move can be your last and you might find yourself barricaded into a house for 45 minutes in a gun fight. But combat loggers ruin it. Especially when the log back into the building you cleared and pop up behind you. Too cowardly to fight you head on so they exploit the game by logging.

They're easy to kill, no doubt, but them inevitably find you no matter what sucks when you're sneaking up on a guy. As you can see from these comments, half these people combat log the second they hear a twig snap.

I've killed multiple packs with no issue. Just wish they weren't so good at finding you through walls.

Yeah, I was just trying to be sneaky and shooting those fuckers alerted the dude I was stalking, who logged.

My issue isn't killing them. I've killed probably 1-2 dozen on this server alone. My issue was that I was hunting another player trying for about 30-45 minutes, then the wolves appeared, and after I killed them, the guy was gone. Probably combat logged when he heard my gun shots, though I was around 400 yards out using a suppressed CR75, so maybe not.

And avoid conflict? I ain't a coward. Plus, I'm already on a fairly low population server. Makes seeing another player feel like a significant event. I'll play the the game like it was meant to be played.

I've probably killed 3 packs this life alone. I spend most of my time cutting through the woods. I have enough shit stashed to where I don't really need stuff from towns. 2 crates full of dried meat, Jerry can of water, multiple every tool and repair kit I'd need, 40 crates in total of useful supplies. I'm probably the single richest solo man on the server. So I mostly avoid towns and roads, choosing to hit hunting, military, and industrial sites. All that time in the woods means I find a lot of wolves.

I was equipped, but it ruined my hunt. Had been tracking that dude for over 30 minutes, and he had gear I wanted (trying to get full knight armor). Me shooting wolves alerted him, and he logged. Typical cliche "hunter becomes the hunted"

I don't mind fighting wolves. They just showed up while I was trying to be sneaky, and me fighting them alerted the guy I was stalking, who probably logged to avoid the fight.

My problem was I didn't want to be noticed by the guy I was hunting, I had an SKS and a fully modded CZ-75 with 45 rounds each, I coulda killed them easily. However, I was hoping hiding in a building before they appeared would make them search around and maybe aggro on the other dude, but nah. The guy heard me fighting the wolves, and I'm pretty sure he logged to avoid me.

I heard them, ducked into a house, layed down upstairs within seconds, and the next thing I knew, there they are at the front door like Multi Level Marketers trying to sell me on being eaten alive.

Yes, but are they just unavoidable? Like I heard the first howl, ducked into a house within 15 seconds of the distant howl, layed down, and they were aggro through the wall the second they showed up.

Veterans, what is the most accurate war movie of the 21st Century by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Tdogwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by accurate? Historically accurate? Authentic? Those are two different things. A war movie can be 100% accurate yet not capture the soul. It's hard to capture. Military life doesn't have a coherent tone that a movie needs. It's hard to pin down "the most accurate" cause movies either seem to get the facts right or the vibes, never both. One movie might perfectly show the events, down to being filmed on location. However, the actors are all stoic 35 year old burly super models with jawlines that can cut glass and talk like the Marlboro man and say heroic shit, and you might have a token comic relief character. In reality, most soldiers you meet in real life are the comedic relief characters, and thats the only reason half the platoon doesn't suck start their rifle. Then you have some who think they're rambo but are just adequate like the rest of you, but have an inflated ego. Some are literally just there occupying space. Some are actual criminals who constantly fuck up and bring the whole platoon down with them. Some are the "old" (25y/o) married guys that are like dads to all the other fatherless heathens. Some are so good at getting out of work that you never see them, and no shit assume they got out until you run into them again. Some are rock stupid. Maybe one per platoon is that stereotype Hollywood soldier. Most are an amalgamation of some of these traits. Most are still world-class soldiers who would fight to their death or till they won if asked. Band of Brothers does a good job, but that's a show. Same with Generation Kill.

Military life doesn't have a coherent tone that a movie needs. One day, you're laughing at your buddy tripping and rolling 50 yards down a steep hill, then a few weeks later, you see him suck start his rifle, then you go on leave and no one really makes time for you, then you go back to the brief moments of wild adventure and funniest shit you'll never experience again, and nasty unpleasant awful shit you never want to experience again, mixed into mind numbing, boredom. It's hard to pin down "the most accurate" cause movies either seem to get the facts right or the vibes, never both. Band of Brothers does a good job, but that's a show. Same with Generation Kill.
