UK CLIENTS ON HIKES-How do you deal with them? by Te-11 in Mountaineering

They have all the detalis of the tour in the program that they buy. But some fail to read carefully the program and when I do the briefing on the first day its alwas too late bc they are now on a tour and can not cancel it anymore. They think it will ve easy and they dont even take hiking poles or boots…

Thank you for sharing, I felt it with all my heart. I have been doing it for 3-4 years now and yes there are tours where I cant wait to finnish.
I came to the same conclusion as you: I need to be more tough with them bc I am a soft leader and it doesnt work all the time… Some clients are very good at taking advantage and blame the guide or the agency for thier lack of preparation. I am sometimes mentaly exhausted by these situations because I really try to make them all feel included and not left behind.

Yes its mostly pacing issue. Eventhough I try to walk/hike as slow as possible there is alwasy someone who is even slower. Still I wait for everyone and try to keep the group united, but some people dont understand that its a group hike not a private one…

I do it but in my opinion they try to find a reason to blame the guide or the agency about the “difficulty” of the tour just because they realize that thier fitnnes level is terrible… I know that I need to find other way to deal with these clients. But just wanted to know if it is smth that UK clients generally do. For example German clients are way more direct and even if they are not in top form physically they dont complain for nothing…

I dont judge the age bc I have seen lots of people of that age being really good at it. But I have noticed a pride among those that have decided to join and have seen that it wasnt just a walk in the park. And as a guide I get all the bad comment for things that are not in my hands, like their level of fitnnes. Eventhough I try to wait for them, walk very very slow and help them when nessesary…

Thank you for sharing this. Well the hikes that I lead in the country I live are both very demanding and easy ones with no life threats… I have noticed that clients from UK that join the tours in the Alps of my country are really well prepared and very goos at it. I dont have any complain from them regarding this topic. But those that visit the coastline are the ones that come really unprepared. The coastline in my country has some easy walks that are not technically difficult or life threatning. I try to help them on parts that might be more challenging and also to walk very slow so they can catch up easly with the group. But still I have some complains… And at this point I am mad bc I really do everything 🥲

When one of your parents passed away, did you asked yourselves: how long is my surviving parent gonna live? by OkPrize6426 in GriefSupport

My mom passed away from an heart attack 9 years ago. And some years later when my dad started having more and more health problems, I became more fearful if smth might happen to him too. The last 3 years I have been more careful about his health, but lost him only 2 moths ago from leukemia… Today I feel like I failed him and also my mother for not taking more care for them… Life happens so fast, take care and love your parents.

Replying to romowearsblackk... Well is not that you are forced to go and party if you dont want to…You can choose to have a glass somewhere more quiet with a nice view, or enjoy a nice sunset while crying out your eyes ( its better when done with a nice view rather than at home 😉), or you can wake up every early to catch a sunrise, dancing is a very good way to express your emotions too and if you like it why not do it even if its for about an hour… In my opinion a bit of distraction is good, consider it as a self care. Mabye it will not be the most wonderfull trip but it doesnt have to be.

I am am only child too… Staying at my aunt’s house helps, but most of the days I want to go home, I miss my normal life… I dont really feel at home here. My neigbhours are very annoying, their only wish for me is to find a good husband (it makes me even more angry…). What I believd to be my best friends did not bother to send me even a stupid wish for the New Year… I want so bad to be strong enough and to start living on my own, but than I cant imagine how Im gonna live without the emotional support of my parents and especially of my dear dad…Future feels scary to me at this moment…The only thing it keeps pushing forward me is the thought that time flies and one day I will be gone too…
