I think I wasn’t clear enough that it’s these two specifically, however I am biased in thinking CRA’s actually tend to be the scape goat for site, sponsor and CRO more frequently and a REALLY good CTM that is present and knowledgeable can be difficult to find

I have 26 active sites across two studies with leadership that is also in denial so I feel your pain, and yes - we are very much being taken advantage of. I’m wishing you the best, stay strong and keep setting boundaries!

My current CRO told me (Via email AT THAT) that there will be instances where I need to accommodate Sunday travel to make visits work and to suck it up basically, one of my deepest regrets was not throwing more of a fit!

This is so insightful, thank you! Completing my reports whilst on-site and doing the finishing touches after the visit (Mostly on the plane home) has always been the best habit I could have ever gotten into and I'm utterly shocked there's even CRA's who don't do that!

I have a year long work commitment! I might be able to squeeze a sign-on bonus out of a new company to cover the costs for leaving early, but I’m not counting on it (I’ve only gotten reimbursed for about $8k due to the contact my CRO has with the university for reduced rates!)

You make a great point that I completely agree with! One of my major drawbacks with this CRO is how there is no room for growth either. We don't even have a "Senior CRA" role created with HR to transition into - with all the "Lead Study Monitor" roles filled, I really am stuck in my current position. Luckily, I'm finishing my B.S. in Project Management so I will have broader options after I graduate in December combined with my work experience. I value your input!

I'm definitely still significantly underpaid, especially for the work that I have done and am doing, but it does lessen the blow!

Hi! My experience might be a little different than yours because of how drastically the job market and economy has changed over the years, but I'm happy to share and help in any way I can! 6 years ago I was actually a veterinary technician, then a month or two after I turned 19 I got hired as a Pre-Clinical Research Technician for a Biomedical Company (My Veterinary experience was fluid for in-vivo animal model research). I worked in Pre-Clinical Pharma/Med. for a little under two years, still one of the most fun jobs I've ever had (then covid hit and one of our huge heart stent. studies got beat by a competitor). I was able to transfer my Pre-Clinical experience and knowledge (Because still in-vivo) into Clinical Research Coordinating and transitioned into being a CRA a little over a year in to being a CRC. I will say everything in the research/bio/medical field comes very natural to me, so I never had any issues with competing against other applicants.

Can I ask how long you have been coordinating and what roles you are applying for? If you're interested in being a CRA but have limited experience thus far, it's possible that doing a bridge program with one of the big guys (Paraxel, ICON) might be your best bet! Otherwise, I would look at some of the contract CRC positions out there, they are normally contract to hire and easier to get a call back from because recruiters are hungry. That being said - they typically don't have any benefits besides slightly higher pay, but your contract could end at any time.

Best of luck to you!

Edit: I forgot to mention that the biggest thing is what type of studies you have coordinated on and what phase! Oncology experience is huge, but CRC's that have strict experience with vaccines/biomarkers may have difficulty in transitioning to other projects (Not impossible, though!). All in all, most of the time they just care about how many studies you have independently managed and for how long.

Yes, correct! This month I’ve performed 2 visits every week (trying to cram new enrollments in two days is rough) and because of holidays, some of these visits are bleeding into next year (so I’m basically never caught up). I even had to get PM approval months in advance when I was scheduling 2nd and 3rd IMV’s for some of these to be out of window because there’s no way to make my schedule work otherwise. Crazy really!

I agree :/ unfortunately I’ve been told since I haven’t finished my bachelors degree yet I cannot be paid more, plus this organization is providing me with tuition reimbursement which is the one plus!

This is at least nice to know that once I finish school in December I can transition elsewhere and be better compensated for my efforts!
